Meet Dr. Kevin Myers

We recently connected with Dr. Kevin Myers and have shared our conversation below.

Dr. Kevin, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
A culmination of experiences has led me to pursue a career in Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. I have always been fascinated by Orthopedics and the musculoskeletal system of the human body. I appreciate that the entire mechanical design is logical and practical, a system of levers and pulleys that can produce movements varying from finely detailed to explosive and powerful. I first encountered this field as a ten year old when my grandmother fell and “broke her hip.” I remember the amazement I felt when I learned that her doctors repaired her injury using a metal rod and screws. I find the biomechanics and function of the various joints of the body to be truly fascinating and I am amazed by the capabilities that the human body is able to perform. I grew up playing sports, from football and basketball to rugby in college. Exercise and sporting activities continue to be an important part of my life, and I can empathize with the patient who is unable to perform the activities that they enjoy. My desire to heal and repair people, restore function, and improve their quality of life with non-surgical and surgical intervention led me to become an orthopedic surgeon. I am able to fix people with my hands every day, and this is very rewarding and fulfilling.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon with subspecialty fellowship training and certification in Orthopedic Sports Medicine. I am the head team physician for the NBA G-League Texas Legends (Mavericks affiliate). I provide operative and non-operative treatment to athletes and active patients of all levels and backgrounds. My practice is OrthoTexas – Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. We are a large group of subspecialty trained orthopedic surgeons with all different aspects of the musculoskeletal system covered: knee, hip, shoulder, hand, elbow, spine, joint replacement and arthritis, foot & ankle. We see adult and pediatric patients at four locations: Plano, Frisco, Carrollton, and Denton. We offer comprehensive and compassionate care with the office, x-ray, PT, MRI, and surgical facilities all together on site. What sets our group apart is that you know you will be seeing a board-certified specialist – an orthopedic physician who has specific training and experience in your condition or body part. We also have walk-in hours every morning during the week to accommodate urgent issues, and are often available for same day appointments in the case of an injury.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Becoming a successful and skilled orthopedic surgeon is a long and arduous road filled with years of intense determination, sacrifice, and focus. Even after the 10+ years and 40,000 hours of training are complete, surgeons continue to improve, stay up to date, and develop new techniques. The field of orthopedics is always advancing, with the goal of providing the best patient care and outcomes possible. The three most important qualities in this field are dedication, perseverance, and compassion.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I owe all of my success to my wife, parents, and family – their continuous support of my career has allowed me to be where I am today. I am also thankful for my mentors in training and my practice partners who are readily available for collaboration and discussion.
