We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dr. La Shawn Denise Witt. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dr. La Shawn Denise below.
Hi Dr. La Shawn Denise, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
Being the only one in the room has never intimidated me—it’s sharpened me. I’ve learned to transform isolation into influence by bringing my full, unapologetic self to every space I enter. I prepare thoroughly, lead with excellence, and let my results speak before I ever have to. Over time, I’ve realized that representation isn’t just about presence—it’s about power, and how you choose to use your voice.
When I’ve been the only one who looks like me, I’ve leaned into what sets me apart—my lived experiences, cultural lens, and resilience. I’ve also built intentional relationships and allies who respect my leadership. I’ve learned to listen actively, speak strategically, and always advocate for inclusion, not just for myself but for those who come after me.
Being “the only one” has made me more confident, more compassionate, and more committed to making sure I’m not the last one.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m Dr. La Shawn Denise Witt, also known as The Global Strategist™—a transformational coach, award-winning educator, serial entrepreneur, speaker, and author. My life’s work centers around helping women unlock their purpose, walk in their power, and lead with intention. Everything I do—from consulting school districts and coaching women leaders, to planning luxury travel and events, to leading nonprofit initiatives—is rooted in one mission: to ignite transformational change and elevate excellence.
Professionally, I wear multiple crowns. I’m the founder of Witt & Associates, a boutique consulting firm that supports K-12 and higher education institutions in creating culturally responsive, equity-centered learning environments. I’m also the CEO of The Global Strategist, LLC, a brand committed to developing women spiritually, professionally, and personally. Through masterclasses, coaching cohorts, and strategic business development, I help women turn their ideas into impact.
I’m also the heart behind My Sister’s Keeper, a nonprofit that serves marginalized women in Los Angeles through empowerment programs, outreach to women experiencing homelessness and human trafficking, and our signature Wonder Woman Conference—which prepares women for both ministry and the marketplace.
What excites me most? Seeing women realize they are the answer—to their families, their communities, and even their younger selves. Watching people transform is the most sacred work I do.
There’s so much unfolding right now. I recently launched SHEConsults Academy, a 9-month program helping aspiring educational consultants build thriving businesses. I’m also expanding Charity House, a transitional housing program under My Sister’s Keeper, and preparing for a global expansion of Fabulous Divas + Gents, my luxury travel concierge and group experience brand. And yes, the next stop on the book tour is coming soon!
Whether I’m standing behind a podium, in a boardroom, or on the streets of Los Angeles handing out toiletries to women in need—my message is the same: you can evolve, emerge, and elevate. I did. And I’m committed to helping others do the same.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been:
Resilience – Life didn’t hand me ease, it handed me opportunities to rise. From navigating personal trials to breaking glass ceilings in professional spaces, my ability to bounce back—and bounce forward—has been critical. Resilience taught me that setbacks are setups, and every “no” simply redirected me toward a greater “yes.”
Visionary Leadership – I’ve always been able to see beyond what is and strategize for what could be. Whether I’m building a program, a brand, or a movement, I lead with a clear vision and the courage to take bold, intentional steps—often before the path is visible to anyone else.
Emotional Intelligence – The ability to read the room, manage conflict, build authentic relationships, and navigate complexity with grace has been a game changer. In ministry, education, business, and advocacy—people matter most. Being able to lead with empathy while remaining anchored in strategy is what sets lasting leaders apart.
Advice for those early in their journey:
Build your bounce-back muscle. Don’t fear failure—it’s part of the curriculum. Learn to pivot with power.
Take time to clarify your vision. Don’t just chase success—define what significance looks like for you.
Invest in your self-awareness. Know who you are, what you value, and how you impact others. Read, reflect, and remain coachable.
Success isn’t just about where you’re going—it’s about who you’re becoming along the way.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
If I knew I only had a decade left, I would live that decade fully, intentionally, and fearlessly.
I’d spend my time pouring into people—especially women and youth—because legacy isn’t built in things, it’s built in others. I’d document every lesson I’ve learned so far and turn it into books, speeches, retreats, and masterclasses designed to outlive me. I’d spend more time near the ocean, praying, writing, dancing, and laughing with the people I love. I’d say “no” quicker, say “yes” to joy more often, and make rest and pleasure a priority, not a reward.
I would make sure my daughter knows every single thing I ever wanted to tell her—about life, purpose, faith, and how to keep going when the world tries to break you.
And I would use my final years to create systems, programs, and safe spaces that empower Black women and girls to thrive—spiritually, emotionally, financially, and professionally—long after I’m gone.
Because when the clock is ticking louder, you realize: your time is your truest wealth. And I intend to spend every second of mine making impact, building legacy, and loving loudly.
