We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dr. Manmeet Rattu. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dr. Manmeet below.
Dr. Manmeet, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I love this question. Purpose, for me, was not just found overnight. It was cultivated over time. I knew I had personal strengths, as we all do, but for a long time I dimmed my own light with self doubt and criticism. I lacked direction and purpose. Although I spent a lot of time acquiring skills through my education and work experiences, I lacked the confidence to actualize my purpose for a long time. It wasn’t until I started to invest more in myself that I began to value my time and energy in a meaningful way. Over years of personal development and inner work, I became more clear on my purpose. Today, I define my purpose as helping others discover their self worth and fall in love with life again the way I did. I share the tools and strategies I learned to overcome difficulties and hope to be a model for others in believing that change is possible.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I believe in embracing all of who we are in an authentic way. I combine my love for psychology, yoga, and bodybuilding in professional and personal ways. It excites me to teach my patients in clinical settings, for example, the importance of physical health as it relates directly with our mental health. I also love educating others on the neuroscience of yoga, mindfulness and mediation to treat conditions such as traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, body dysmorphia and more. I am fascinated by the mind-body connection, and how much power we have when it comes to living an optimal life. I try my best to live each day with intention and to have a personal practice that includes the recommendations I have for my patients and the general community.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Self talk matters- How we speak to ourselves directly impacts how we show up in the world. Learning to speak to myself with compassion, kindness, and grace has allowed me the courage to make mistakes and take risks to propel me forward in so many ways.
2. Healthy boundaries- I used to live my life passively and allowed others to influence major decisions in my life. I didn’t trust myself enough to know I can say no, or speak assertively. I used to be a chronic people pleaser and tried to do what I thought my family and others wanted me to do and never learned what it meant to have a boundary. Learning this skills has been an incredible act of self love and allowed me the mental and emotional space to serve in a way that feels good to me.
3. Creating anchors- Building a lifestyle that is supportive has had a profound impact into how I see myself and situations I experience. Having anchors facilitates stability and safety. This can look somewhat different for everyone, but for me it started with movement- specifically bodybuilding and yoga. Building on physical strength ultimately fueled psychological strength. I was able to see myself as resilient, strong, worthy, and build confidence. With confidence comes a willing to connect socially and create further resources that supported myself and others.
In terms of advice for those that are early in their journey, I recommend them to just start. Self development is a messy journey and progress is neither perfect or linear. What matters most is consistency. Consistently show up and over time habits become reflexive.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Community is one of my highest values and I am always open to collaborate with others that share my mission. I currently teach workshops, speak at conferences, and facilitate retreats on topics including the neuroscience of traumatic stress, anxiety, and yoga psychology. I enjoy collaborating with organizations that are wanting to improve systems and workplace wellbeing. I also enjoy working with the community and collaborate with private and public vendors and groups. I am still growing and am also open to new ideas and opportunities.
