Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr. Mari Larrea. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Dr. Mari , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Purpose for me began with a question- why am I here on this Earth, and more specifically, why at this time? Faith for me helped me find that answer. It encouraged me to use my talents, passions, and curiosity to answer that question— continuously. I found that curiosity was the vehicle to my calling.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I enjoy diving into new projects and that oftentimes includes wearing new hats!
I primarily work as a clinical psychology therapist and sport and performance consultant. I love to work with individuals to work through transitions in life, grief, injury & recovery, and working to understand one’s identity. My background and training in clinical psychology has prepared me to treat, diagnose, and teach about many topics!
I value discovery, adventure, learning, creativity, and rest. These values led me to start a nonprofit in an effort to provide services for underserved populations with a focus on performance and other initiatives like sexuality and faith. At Elevate Global Ministry, Inc we provide low-cost coaching and consultation services to teams, individuals (10 years-old+), and soon therapy services will be available. We also focus on creative outreaches. One that is coming up is a curated pop-up for survivors of domestic violence. Stylists and members of the community will join to help connect with these individuals, while styling outfits for them to return to the workplace. We’d love volunteers and donations!
Connecting with others is another passion of mine and because of that Elevate Performance Psychology, LLC was formed. This business is formed to cultivate a space for individuals, teams, groups, or families to learn about what’s impacting performance, what’s causing mental blocks, and how to use what you have to improve performance and quality of life.
My hope is that at some point, these services will expand to providing therapy for other concerns like sexual health concerns, trauma, and medical conditions. The goal is to use creative outlets to explore these concepts!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I think structure, passion, and flexibility are the main qualities necessary for success. Advice I would say is to hold this in mind; The measure of success in not just what you do or how much you get done, but about who you become.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes! I’m looking for partners for both the nonprofit (Elevate Global Ministry, Inc) and LLC (Elevate Performance Psychology, LLC).
Ideal partners are individuals who’d love to volunteer either hands-on during the outreaches or events, can give financially, or who can help behind-the-scenes with creative ideas for the marketing and events.
I’d love to also collaborate with other creatives and individuals in different fields (advertising, physical therapy, injury rehabilitation, culinary, finance, floral designs, etc). Let’s see how we can collaborate!
