Meet Dr. Monica Krishnan

We recently connected with Dr. Monica Krishnan and have shared our conversation below.

Dr. Monica, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I think we all have resilience. There is a word that comes to my mind as we talk about resilience, and that word is SHAKTI. Shakti often described as the divine feminine energy in Hinduism, serves as a profound reminder of the inner strength we all carry. I believe my personal resilience comes from wanting to help others, to be of service.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My names is Dr Monica and I am based in Los Angeles California. I have been practicing Clinical Pharmacy for over 24 years. I am a Mental Health and Grief Advocate, as well as a Medical Writer. Iam currently working on a beautiful passion project, A children’s book. The book is set to launch towards the end of 2024. Working on a children’s book on Mental Health and Grief is so important for me, especially as a South Asian woman. There is so much stigma with Mental Health globally, and i have seen so much within the South Asian Community. I wanted to bring voice to young readers so we can normalize talking about Mental Health at a early age.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think some areas I needed to work on was my spirituality and inner healing. Turning my pain into purpose became a mission for me. Sharing my story of grief and resilience and helping others along the way. I knew that deep inner healing was necessary, so i began that journey in 2021 with my spiritual wisdom teacher Priya Jain from Seventh Chakra Institute of Spiritual Sciences. Healing is a forever journey, deep inner work especially if there is trauma is involved, as it was in my case. Spiritualty has taught me that our soul has come to earth to have experiences. The good, the bad and the neutral.

My advice to anyone who is seeking answers to life’s questions, is find a trusted group of friends who can be along with you in this journey of evolving and growing. Read book or listen to podcasts that inspire you.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
I think the most impactful thing my parents did for me was to push me to get a higher education. I completed my Doctor of Pharmacy back in 1999 , and I remember my dad telling me not to get married until i could stand on my own feet financially. Even today, almost 25 years later those words are fresh in my mind. It is the same thing I tell my two teen age daughters today as they both will be heading to college. Education is a way of changing the the world and it’s something no one can take away from you.
