We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dr. Quodarrius Toney a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Dr. Quodarrius with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic comes directly from my mom. My mother’s ability to always stay dedicated to her dreams is remarkable. She has a unwavering spirit about herself that really pushes me to be great. Her discipline, and drive is unmatched. I cannot thank her enough for instilling that in me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As a doctor of dental surgery, one of my greatest passions lies in dentistry. My practice, the Art of Aesthetics, is centered around cosmetic dentistry while still providing comprehensive care to our patients. The aim is to create beautiful smiles and promote practices for better oral health and overall well-being in a warm and welcoming space. This is a place where dentistry meets innovation and artistry within a spirit of excellence.
My passion for dentistry expands beyond my practice. I’ve established a non-profit organization with the intention to give back to the communities that have given so much to me as well as the larger Black community to make dreams like mine more accessible to those who look like me through scholarship and mentorship.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My faith, tenacity, and attention to detail have been highly impactful in my journey thus far and will likely continue to be throughout my career. My advice to others early in their journey is to stay the course and be thoughtful about how you pursue it. Specifically, I believe it’s essential to grow in faith, let it be a guide through both the good and bad times; remain steadfast in your goals through visualization and be mindful of your thoughts; and lastly, take your time, remain focused, and prioritize quality.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
I pray and I have that crazy kind of faith that has been integral to both my personal and professional development.
So, my advice to others, when they feel overwhelmed, would be to look internally, knowing that God has equipped you with all you need. God has given us evidence of this throughout our lives, you just have to look at what He has already seen you through. Continue to pray about it and grow in your faith, so much so that it may just seem a little crazy to others to believe in it.
