We were lucky to catch up with Dr. Sabrina Livingston recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Sabrina, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
The Source of My Resilience: Choosing to Thrive
Resilience isn’t something you’re born with – it’s something you build. For me, it started in chaos. I was passed between guardians from the age of two. By six, I was living in a car and a homeless shelter, struggling with chronic stress that took a toll on my young nervous system. Eventually, my grandmother took in my siblings and me, keeping us out of foster care. But in that home, I was tolerated, not celebrated.
From an early age, I realized that if I was going to feel worthy, it had to come from within. I grew up craving approval that never came. I remember announcing my decision to go to chiropractic school and being met with a simple “cool.” When I became a personal trainer, my excitement was met with, “You know, Sandia is always hiring janitors, and they have retirement.” Nothing I did was good enough, so I stopped trying to earn validation from others. I chose to define my worth on my own terms.
Choosing Purpose Over Fear
Before becoming a chiropractor, doctors told me I’d never run again. I was 23, and the thought of giving up something I loved broke my heart. Then, I found chiropractic – a profession rooted in hope, in the belief that the body can heal and adapt. That hope changed my life. I wanted to give that gift to others, to help them reconnect with their bodies and believe in their resilience.
Starting Sol Chiropractic was an act of faith. After a job offer fell through, I returned to Albuquerque and took a secure but unfulfilling corporate job. I felt a pull to create something more meaningful. People warned me about the risks, but I couldn’t ignore my calling. I started Sol with nothing but a vision, faith, and a deep desire to empower others. Now, Sol Chiropractic is changing lives, healing from the inside out.
Choosing to Thrive
For years, I saw myself as a victim of my past. But during an archeological dig in Romania, someone told me, “You choose to be happy, or you choose not to be.” That moment changed everything. I realized that I could either be defined by my pain or use it as fuel to build the life I wanted. I chose to thrive.
Yoga became my center, grounding me in movement and mindfulness. Journaling helped me process my emotions and find clarity. These practices became my tools for resilience, helping me stay connected to my purpose.
From Surviving to Thriving
Today, people walk into Sol Chiropractic and see light, joy, and passion. They don’t see the years of struggle it took to get here. But that’s what resilience is – the quiet strength that keeps you moving forward, even when no one sees the fight.
My resilience comes from choosing to rise above my circumstances, from believing in my purpose, and from empowering others to believe in themselves. It’s about transforming pain into purpose, survival into strength.
I chose to thrive. And now, through my work, I help others do the same.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
At Sol Chiropractic, we do more than just adjustments, we help people reconnect with their bodies and rediscover their innate ability to heal. Our approach is rooted in nervous system care, focusing on the brain-body connection to enhance overall health, adaptability, and resilience. We see symptoms as alarms, not enemies, and we believe in healing from the inside out.
What makes Sol Chiropractic truly special is our community-centered, holistic approach. We treat our patients like family, providing a warm and welcoming space where they feel seen, heard, and supported. We specialize in prenatal and pediatric care, helping moms experience healthier pregnancies and children grow up thriving. But our care extends to all ages, supporting everyone from athletes to first responders to families wanting to live more vibrant lives.
I started Sol Chiropractic because I wanted to create a space that empowers people to believe in their bodies’ incredible resilience. Chiropractic changed my life by showing me that our bodies are capable of so much more than we realize, and I wanted to share that hope and healing with others.
What’s New at Sol Chiropractic?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey, the most impactful qualities that shaped my path were confidence, creativity, and love. These weren’t just traits I was born with, they were skills I had to cultivate, sometimes painfully, but always purposefully.
Confidence didn’t come easily to me. Growing up in an environment where validation was scarce, I learned that if I was going to pursue my dreams, I had to believe in myself first. When I chose chiropractic, I faced skepticism and doubt from those closest to me. It would have been easy to let that discourage me, but I chose to trust my vision instead. I realized that confidence isn’t about knowing all the answers, it’s about taking action, even when you don’t have them. In the words of Shia LaBeouf, “Just do it.” That became my mantra. I stopped waiting for the perfect moment and took the leap. Confidence was built in the doing, not the waiting. It taught me that the only permission I needed was my own.
Creativity turned challenges into opportunities. When I started Sol Chiropractic, I didn’t just want to open a clinic. I wanted to create a space that felt like home. A place that blended science with spirituality, where people felt truly seen and heard. Creativity allowed me to build a community-centered experience that broke away from tradition and embraced healing from the inside out. It gave me the freedom to dream big and the courage to bring those dreams to life.
But above all, love has been my guiding force. Love is at the heart of Sol Chiropractic. It’s the reason our patients feel like family and the reason I show up every day with purpose and passion. I wanted to create a place where people received not just care, but compassion, understanding, and hope. Love meant putting people first, leading with empathy, and building a community rooted in genuine human connection.
Love also meant loving myself enough to pursue a life that felt meaningful and true to who I am. It meant healing from my past, letting go of the need for validation, and trusting that my purpose was enough. Love became my strength, my motivation, and my reason for pushing through every challenge.
Confidence gave me the courage to start, creativity gave me the vision to build something new, and love gave me the purpose to keep going. For anyone starting their journey, my advice is this: Believe in yourself, dream boldly, lead with love, and when in doubt, just do it. That’s how you create a life that truly matters.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Honestly, as cheesy as it might sound, the person who has been most impactful in my journey is my husband. He’s my rock, my cheerleader, and truly the human embodiment of a golden retriever – endlessly loyal, supportive, and full of love. I credit him for so much of my personal growth. He’s always believed in me, even when I struggled to believe in myself. He constantly reminds me of my own power and independence, showing me that I’m capable of anything I set my mind to.
More than that, he’s helped me shift my mindset. I can be the type of person who festers on the negative, but he’s always there to help me refocus on the positive. He taught me to ask, “What is right?” instead of fixating on what’s wrong. This philosophy became a core part of how I approach my work with patients. At Sol Chiropractic, I focus on what’s right with their bodies – on their innate ability to heal and adapt. It’s about empowering people to see their own resilience, just like he’s helped me see mine.
I also credit yoga philosophy for shaping my mindset and approach to life. During my yoga teacher training, I resonated deeply with the concept of ‘Santosha’, which means contentment. It’s about being happy with where you are and what you have, without losing the drive to grow or achieve more. It taught me that even if things don’t work out as planned, it’s okay because I’m already content with where I am. This philosophy gave me the confidence to take risks and go all in – because no matter the outcome, I know I’ll still be okay.
Between my husband’s unwavering support and the grounding philosophy of Santosha, I’ve been able to pursue my dreams with confidence, creativity, and love. And that’s how Sol Chiropractic came to be – from a place of gratitude, purpose, and the belief that healing happens from the inside out.
