Meet Dr. Sarah Refner

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dr. Sarah Refner. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dr. Sarah below.

Dr. Sarah , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Being a Nurse Practitioner has been one of the most rewarding accomplishments of my life. I have always had a genuine passion for helping others. From the time I was a little girl, I knew I wanted my line of work to involve helping people. My mom always would tell me, “Sarah, you would make the most incredible nurse”. Her words always lingered in my mind and I more seriously considered them as I approached college. After taking my first anatomy and physiology course in college, I knew I had to pursue studying medicine.

I grew exponentially in nursing school. I didn’t study to pass. I studied to thoroughly understand and know the material. I knew one day, the effort I put in would allow me to be the most proficient nurse I could be for the patients I would eventually take care of. I graduated with my Associates Degree in Nursing and received my license to practice as a Registered Nurse in 2015. I then went on to receive my Bachelors of Science in Nursing, and later my Doctorate in Nursing Practice to become an Advanced Practice Nurse and certified Nurse Practitioner.

The schooling I received allowed me to take care of patients in a variety of different areas including acute in-patient, critical care in-patient, and outpatient settings. I have been incredibly moved by the strength I have witnessed my patients have during their most vulnerable hours and I am so incredibly thankful and blessed that I was able to be a part of their journey towards healing.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Sarah Refner and I am a licensed Nurse Practitioner, Doctor of Nursing Practice, and owner of Sarah Jayne Aesthetics. I have been licensed in the medical field since 2015 and have experience in multiple different areas including acute and critical care Cardiology, Neurosurgery, ENT, Plastic Surgery, and Dermatology. I was awarded the opportunity to work at some of the most respected institutions in the nation including Phoenix Children’s Hospital and Mayo Clinic. My experience in these areas gave me a firm foundation and skill set working in medicine.

I have been a certified nurse injector since 2017 and have kept my skill set sharp by training with some of the most reputable injectors in the field of medical aesthetics. I opened my medical aesthetic practice in 2022 and offer a variety of different treatments and services including Botox, Filler, Sculptra, PDO threads, and Microneedling to name a few. I am a conservative injector whose goal is to preserve and enhance your natural beauty while always prioritizing quality care and safe practice.

At Sarah Jayne Aesthetics my hope is to create a long lasting relationship with my patients to keep you aging gracefully.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1) Consistency. Someone asked me the other day how I stay motivated. The truth is, I don’t. I stay consistent. I have always imagined my big goals, but have focused on the small steps to get there. My parents have influenced me in a major way when it comes to this. To this day, I still don’t believe that any dream is too big. I believe you just need to figure out the steps you need to take to achieve your dream. There are days you move quick, with high amounts of motivation and days you move much slower. As long as you are moving, you are growing.

2)Quality
All things quality!! Quality education, products, services, care, relationships have all been paramount in helping me get to where I am. I have always been a firm believer that you should never cut corners. Quality yields quality.

3) Safety
Practicing aesthetic medicine is a fine art. I have invested thousands of hours towards continued education to ensure I can safely take care of my patients. Understanding anatomy is of critical importance when injecting the intricate, highly vasculature structures of the face. I will always value education and vow to never stop learning!

My advice to newer injectors would be to understand your anatomy!! Attend a cadaver course and study facial anatomy. Often times injectors will go to their initial training to get certified to inject and then feel discouraged afterwards because they do not feel confident. THIS IS NORMAL! You must make the commitment and investment to attend many hands-on trainings, go to conferences, pair up with a mentor, go to shadow other injectors. Never stop learning!

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
When you sit down with your medical aesthetic provider you should feel safe, comfortable, and confident in your treatment plan. In my practice, I hope to attract patients that are wanting to establish a long standing relationship. I want my patients to feel heard, valued, and respected. Every new patient receives an in-depth consultation where we review their individual anatomy, treatment options, and a customized plan of care to meet and hopefully exceed their goals!
