Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr. Sherell Edwards. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dr. Sherell, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Maybe it was being raised with out my biological parents…or maybe it was being a young parent, carrying large amounts of responsibility but stacking the “bricks” of life can build a fortress. Heavy labor builds muscle, strength and in the process, tenacity to keep showing up, day after day. I credit that young girl growing up back in the 70s because she built Dr. Sherell! Her shame, determination, difficult times and dreams blended to develop who I became and I could not be more proud. It took a while but I learned what “grace” was and gave myself permission to share in that space. In that space of grace, I began to be more caring and patient towards myself. I realized it was acceptable to truly “love” and care about me without the guilt. It was the growing phases that carved the resilience.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a Functional Health Practitioner & Phytotherapist. I’m sure someone is saying what is that? Basically, I journey with others on their road to wellness. As a functional practitioner, I offer assessments and lab testing to help determine the root cause of chronic illness, mainly hypertension and diabetes. I offer these services to individuals who are “tired” and have tried many things to gain overall great health and they are still struggling miserably. The testing assesses what is occurring within the body chemically. After we gain the objective data on the body, then there is the opportunity to work with us towards a few specific goals within a 3 or 6 month coaching intensive. Only after an individual has accessed the assessment and lab testing services, will they have another option to gain the individualized services of myself as the phytotherapist where food and medicine are used to maintain health through their medicinal value(s).
What’s so special about all of this is watching people live in a state of great health and wellness. Struggling through the days is not the way to maximize our lives. I enjoy walking with others as they find their way to some of the best days they have ever experienced. They become healthy and whole.
My company, All One Life offers the Assessment & Testing package on our website, as well as other products. You can find us at https://payhip.com/AllOneLife We will continue to expand these services in the months ahead.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
In hindsight, I now know that great communication, education and building quality relationships were the most impactful factors within my journey. I lacked understanding and knowledge on both great communication and building relationships but these two were skills that would develop as I grew in life. I now understand what powerful proponents of life they are and how they affect almost everything we do. Early on, I figured out quickly that a part of my journey upward had to include education. I needed education to take me places I would not go on my own so I rode higher level education into the early stages of my life and it afforded me opportunities and access that I know I otherwise would not have experienced.
As advice to others, take all three of these factors, squeeze some authenticity in between and you will have a recipe for a successful path. Mastering these qualities and skills, which you will utilize your entire adult life will allow you to be heard, healthy and prosperous. I had to learn as I grew, but hopefully someone else will get this message and take the easier path.
How would you describe your ideal client?
I am a Managing Member of three limited liability companies but I will chose my healthcare organization in response to this specific question. My ideal client has experienced a few minor health concerns or a major chronic illness (hypertension or diabetes), has tried several approaches and have not overcome those healthcare challenges or at least seen some significant improvement(s). It is at this point that a client truly benefits from what my organization offers. We look at the root cause of chronic illness through health assessment & lab work testing. Once a client knows, then they are in a better position to make some informed choices, i.e. 3o/60 day coaching intensive, move forward on their own path or seek the services of another provider. The human body is a self healing organism and prescription medications have been unsuccessful in helping resolve the chronic illness and number of health concerns citizens continue to face. Once you have some answers, an effective plan can be devised to address the illnesses. This is different from the “guess and see” approach or symptom approach, where a patient states their symptoms and medications are offered to address the symptoms but not the illness.
