Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr. Suzanne Adams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dr. Suzanne , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Imposter syndrome?
It’s like an old shadow that dances beside me, always there, but I’ve learned to make peace with it. Rather than conquering it, I’ve embraced its presence, acknowledging its whispers while I focus on the beautiful moments that unfold when I’m with my family, a new mother, a baby, or a child.
In those joyful and beautiful one-on-one encounters, there’s a magic that drowns out the doubts. I feel it in the quiet, sometimes not-so-quiet moments, the shared smiles, and the trust exchanged. Imposter syndrome always tries to chime in, but I have learned to recognize it as just a small voice in the chorus of connection and purpose that fills my heart.
As I grow older, uncertainty remains a constant companion but I have learned to embrace imperfection and have found my rhythm. I listen, I learn, and I lean into the joy and grace that comes from serving others. My work isn’t just a job; it’s a calling, a sanctuary where my doubts fade in the glow of compassion and connection. So, yes, imposter syndrome lingers, but it’s just a fleeting shadow in the warm light of fulfillment and purpose.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that have been most impactful are resilience, finding empathy for those who seem to work against you, and finding purpose.
Resilience: Throughout my journey, resilience has been essential in overcoming challenges and setbacks. It’s the ability to keep doing the next right thing even when it seems hopeless; to keep showing up. My advice for those early in their journey is to cultivate resilience by reframing failures as opportunities for growth, focus on the positive, and seeking support from mentors or peers during difficult times. One of my favorite sayings is “I just need to say this out loud to another person”. There is a knowingness in that statement that they can’t rescue me, but it helps to not feel alone.
Finding Empathy for Those Who Seem to Work Against You: Navigating criticism and opposition can be draining, yet it’s crucial to recognize that their negativity often arises from inner conflicts. Throughout my journey, I’ve encountered many individuals who seem to harbor animosity toward me. In facing these challenges, my husband has been a steadfast source of support. He often reminds me, “If you don’t have at least two enemies, you’re not putting yourself out there enough.” While I don’t perceive these individuals as enemies, they do exhibit resistance toward me. In my experience, most professional naysayers’ discontent stems from their own personal struggles. They sometimes feel threatened or insecure, projecting their internal conflicts outwardly. For instance, one former supervisor grappled with staff turnover, which seemed to be influenced by deeply personal factors. Despite the initially positive work environment, difficulties emerged upon my departure, revealing underlying personal unresolved issues. Rather than harboring resentment, I chose to approach the situation with understanding and empathy. Recognizing that hostility from others often mirrors their internal turmoil has enabled me to cultivate empathy, even when the problem they’re having is projected on to you.
Finding Purpose: Before having my own children, my purpose was centered around learning and discovering new ways to heal and quiet my mind. I deeply love my parents and initially embarked on this journey to help them. After having children, I became enamored with my babies. I find joy in connecting with all children and witnessing their curiosity and enthusiasm for life. I have a strong intuitive connection with kids, allowing me to understand their needs and emotions even when they struggle to express themselves verbally. It’s as if I can sense what they’re feeling and where they might need support, enabling me to provide compassionate care and guidance.
My advice for those early in their journey is to explore different passions, reflect on what brings you deep fulfillment and joy, and be open to discovering your purpose through meaningful experiences and connections.
Remember that finding your purpose is a journey, not a destination. Be patient with yourself and allow your purpose to evolve and grow over time. Embrace opportunities that align with your values and passions, and trust that you’ll find fulfillment in living a purpose-driven life.
