We were lucky to catch up with Dr. Tashauna Richardson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Tashauna , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
People often ask me where my resilience comes from. The truth is, it’s not something I was simply born with — it’s something I built, piece by piece, through the experiences that have shaped me.
I’ve faced unimaginable loss, including the pain of losing my son. That kind of heartbreak can break you or build you, and for me, it did both. There were days I didn’t know how to move forward, but I knew I had to. My faith carried me through those moments. God reminded me that even in the darkest times, I still had a purpose.
Resilience also came from the lessons I’ve learned in relationships. I’ve loved deeply and endured painful experiences, but each one taught me something valuable about my worth and strength. Choosing to heal and grow rather than remain bitter was one of the hardest and bravest things I’ve ever done.
But perhaps the most powerful source of my resilience is the community I’ve built. Founding I Am Beautiful The Movement Inc. wasn’t just about creating a space for women — it was about creating a space for myself, too. Every story shared, every connection made, and every woman empowered fuels my determination to keep going. It’s a constant reminder that we’re never alone in our struggles.
I’ve learned that resilience isn’t about being unbreakable. It’s about knowing that even when you break, you can put the pieces back together. And sometimes, those cracks are where the light gets in.
This year, I’m stepping into clarity — seeing how every hardship, every tear, and every triumph has brought me to this moment. And for that, I’m grateful.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Right now, I’m in a season of purpose and growth, with my focus on Anchorway Christian University. It’s a privilege to celebrate entrepreneurs who are not only building successful businesses but also leading in ministry. Their dedication, resilience, and impact deserve to be recognized, and that’s exactly what we aim to do.
At Anchorway, we believe entrepreneurship is about more than financial success — it’s about serving others and creating lasting change. The leaders we celebrate have answered their callings with courage and determination, and I’m passionate about amplifying their stories.
What I want people to know about me is that I’m committed to walking in my purpose. Whether it’s through mentorship, recognition, or simply creating space for others to shine, I’m dedicated to encouraging and empowering those who are making a difference.
This season is about growth, celebration, and honoring the leaders who inspire us all. And at Anchorway Christian University, we’re just getting started.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey were resilience, faith, and intentionality.
Resilience has been key. Life will always bring challenges, but having the determination to push through, learn from setbacks, and keep going has made all the difference. I’ve faced personal losses and difficult experiences, but every obstacle shaped me into the woman I am today. For those starting out, I’d say embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. Every setback has a lesson — find it, learn from it, and move forward stronger.
Faith has been my foundation. Trusting God’s plan, even when it didn’t make sense, kept me grounded. I encourage anyone on their journey to stay spiritually connected. Whether that’s through prayer, reflection, or surrounding yourself with like-minded people, keep your faith at the center of your decisions. It will guide you when the path ahead isn’t clear.
Intentionality is what turned my vision into reality. I didn’t wait for opportunities; I created them. Every step I took — from building I Am Beautiful The Movement Inc. to my work with Anchorway Christian University — was purposeful. For those just starting out, I recommend setting clear goals and taking aligned action daily. Be intentional with your time, your relationships, and the energy you give. Don’t be afraid to seek mentorship, invest in your growth, and stay committed to your vision.
Most importantly, believe in yourself. There will be moments of doubt, but remember why you started. Your story, your voice, and your purpose matter. Keep going — the best is yet to come.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
“The Way of the SEAL” by Mark Divine has had a significant impact on my growth, particularly through the principles of Front-Sight Focus and Leading from the Front.
Front-Sight Focus taught me the power of locking in on what truly matters. In both business and life, distractions are constant, but maintaining clarity and focusing on my goals has been key to my success. This mindset has helped me stay disciplined and intentional, ensuring that every decision I make aligns with my purpose.
Leading from the Front is another principle I carry with me daily. It’s about setting the tone, leading by example, and demonstrating the values I believe in. Whether it’s through my work with Anchorway Christian University or in creating opportunities for others, I strive to lead in a way that inspires and empowers. True leadership isn’t about directing from the sidelines — it’s about being in the trenches, showing resilience, and taking bold steps forward.
These principles have shaped not only how I lead but also how I live. They remind me to stay focused, stay intentional, and always lead with purpose.
