Meet Dr. Tiffany Purnell

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dr. Tiffany Purnell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dr. Tiffany below.

Hi Dr. Tiffany , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
There was a time in my life when I did not recognize the queen inside of me. I played it small, and I did not take up space. I minimalized my accomplishments by not celebrating them. I did not celebrate my accomplishments because I did not think I was worthy. At times, I hid my accomplishments from the world. I did not start realizing the magnitude of my accomplishments until I realized how I inspired many people through my accomplishments. I remember a few years ago when I was enrolled in a doctoral program, a lot of my former co-workers came to me and told me how I inspired them to enroll in a doctoral program. When I realized how my accomplishments inspired others, I started celebrating my accomplishments more, no matter how big or small they were. I believe the way to boost self-esteem is to honor and celebrate all accomplishments and to believe you are worthy of all accomplishments. Recognizing and celebrating all accomplishments leads to high self-esteem. I started to raise my confidence levels when I gave myself grace and changed my mindset. I realized high confidence levels come from having a growth mindset and the belief that goals can be reached. In the past, when I failed at a task, I gave up and told myself that I did not have the proper skills to complete the task or I gave myself some sorry excuse for why I could not properly complete the task. At that time I had a fixed mindset. However, I later realized that having a fixed mindset kept me stagnant while diminishing my confidence levels. Now, when I fail at something or when I do not reach a goal, I do not give up. Instead, I create doable action steps that will help me reach my goals.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a primary school principal of a school that serves students in grades pre-K through first. I am also a house matchmaker as a REALTOR®. I believe in the power of having high self-esteem. I am the founder of S.A.S.H.® (Students Against Self-Hatred). I founded S.A.S.H.® in 2015 as an organization where girls and women attend self-esteem-boosting workshops. S.A.S.H.® workshops are held all over the world, including Yorkshire, England.

I am also a Brand Ambassador for SOROR by Satasha Stephen, a makeup and skincare company that specializes in paraben-free and vegan-friendly products.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I believe it is vital for one to be teachable, confident, and ambitious. If you aren’t teachable, you will never grow because you will block all new or different ideas and/or concepts. The best way to be teachable is to have a growth mindset and be open to new ideas and/or concepts. I believe being confident is a big key to success. Confidence comes from not being afraid to fail, setting goals, and giving yourself grace. The way to be ambitious is to make note of all of your goals, set action steps to reach your goals, and believe that you will reach your goals.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I founded S.A.S.H.® (Students Against Self-Hatred) as a way to empower girls and women in communities across the world, through self-esteem-boosting workshops. There are S.A.S.H.® Ambassadors in communities across the world who hold workshops in their communities. I am always looking for S.A.S.H.® Ambassadors to bring the workshops to their own communities.
