We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dr Varil Williams. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dr Varil below.
Dr Varil, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Hey there! My name is Varil, Dr V for short. Developing confidence and self-esteem was a journey shaped by both my personal experiences and professional growth. My early years were marked by struggles with low self-esteem, largely due to a history that many would find challenging. However, it was in facing these challenges head-on that I began to understand the true nature of confidence.
During my academic journey, particularly in pursuing my Ph.D., I wanted to go deeper into understanding human behavior, self-perception, and the psychology of change. This research wasn’t just theoretical for me; it was personal. I took the same tools and insights that I would later teach to my students and clients and applied them to my own life. I learned to reframe negative self-talk, set and achieve personal goals, and surround myself with a supportive community that reinforced my worth.
But the real turning point was accepting my calling as an Ordained Minister and co-Pastor. It was through my faith and service in the ministry that I found the strength to fully embrace who I am. The work I do at Heart-to-Heart Ministry International Inc., alongside my husband, has been instrumental in solidifying my self-esteem. Knowing that I am part of something greater than myself, helping others find their path, and seeing the positive impact of my work has been incredibly empowering.
In essence, my confidence and self-esteem were built through a combination of academic achievement, spiritual growth, and a commitment to serving others. Currently, I am a Psychology professor at 3 medical and college institution. I believe that by understanding our true worth and purpose, we can all develop the confidence to overcome any obstacle.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My work is multifaceted, blending psychology, education, ministry, and writing. As a psychologist and professor, I teach Sociology, Human Development, and Psychology courses online for two colleges. I’m also an author and co-author of several anthologies, including my personal book, The Ingredients for Absolute Results, which has become a No. 1 Best Seller. But beyond these roles, my true passion lies in empowering others to overcome their challenges and realize their full potential.
What excites me most about my work is the opportunity to connect with people on a deep, transformative level. Whether it’s through teaching, speaking engagements, or ministry, I’m driven by the possibility of making a real impact in someone’s life. Seeing students grasp complex concepts, hearing from readers about how my book changed their perspective, or guiding someone through a difficult period in their life—these are the moments that make my work special.
Another aspect that I find incredibly fulfilling is my role as a co-Pastor at Heart-to-Heart Ministry International Inc., where I serve alongside my husband, Pastor John. Our ministry focuses on marriage counseling, personal growth, and spiritual development, and it’s deeply rewarding to witness the positive changes in the lives of those we serve.
Looking ahead, I’m super excited to share that I will be expanding my reach through new speaking engagements and workshops designed to help young girls & moms conquer low self-esteem and build a life of confidence and purpose. Additionally, I completed my new book titled: A Guide to Image Consulting for Moms & Young Girls” Grow and Learn through the Lens of God. This book is one of the kinds, that goes even deeper into the principles of personal transformation and success—stay tuned for more details on its release!
For me, it’s all about blending professional knowledge with personal experience to create meaningful change. My brand is built on authenticity, integrity, and a genuine desire to uplift others. I want people to know that no matter where they are in life, there’s always a path forward—and I’m here to help them find it.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Resilience: Life is full of challenges, and resilience is what helped me navigate through them. My husband (Dr John Williams) and I have 3 businesses. Heart to Heart Coaching (2006) Heart to Heart Ministries International Inc. (2018). VJ& W staffing agency (2022). All 3 failed miserably, but I never gave up hope. It’s the ability to bounce back from setbacks, learn from failures, and keep pushing forward even when the path is unclear. Resilience isn’t something that comes naturally to everyone, but it’s a skill that can be cultivated. For those early in their journey, my advice is to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. When faced with adversity, rather than seeing it as a roadblock, view it as a steppingstone to something greater. Build your resilience by setting small, achievable goals and gradually pushing yourself outside your comfort zone.
2. Self-awareness: Understanding who you are—your strengths, weaknesses, values, and motivations—is crucial for personal and professional development. For me, my Faith and understanding of self-awareness was a turning point in overcoming my own struggles with self-esteem. It allowed me to recognize the areas where I needed to grow and to celebrate my unique qualities. To develop self-awareness, I recommend regular reflection, whether through journaling, meditation, or seeking feedback from trusted mentors. Being
honest with yourself about your emotions and behaviors can lead to profound insights and personal growth.
3. Continuous Learning: The world is constantly evolving, and the ability to adapt and grow with it has been vital in my journey. Whether through formal education, such as pursuing my Ph.D., or informal learning experiences, I’ve always prioritized expanding my knowledge and skills. For those just starting, I encourage you to adopt a mindset of lifelong learning. Be curious, seek out new experiences, and never be afraid to ask questions. Surround yourself with people who inspire you and challenge you to think differently. The more you learn, the more equipped you’ll be to navigate the complexities of life and achieve your goals.
Advice for Early in the Journey: Start by building a strong Spiritual foundation of resilience, self-awareness, and a commitment to learning. Don’t be afraid to fail; instead, see failure as a valuable teacher. Take the time to understand yourself deeply and align your goals with your values. And always growing knowledge and skills are your most powerful tools for success. Remember, the journey is as important as the destination, so embrace each step with courage and curiosity.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
To scale my impact and continue to grow in my work, I’m looking to collaborate with individuals and organizations who share a passion for empowerment, education, and personal transformation. The kinds of folks I’m particularly interested in partnering with include:
Educators and Academic Institutions: As a professor of Sociology, Human Development, and Psychology, I’m always looking for opportunities to collaborate with other educators, researchers, and academic institutions. Whether it’s co-developing courses, engaging in joint research projects, or speaking at educational conferences, I’m eager to work with those who are dedicated to advancing knowledge and helping students thrive.
Authors and Speakers: Fellow authors, speakers, and content creators who focus on personal development, mental health, and leadership are natural collaborators for me. Together, we can co-author books, create workshops, and deliver powerful messages that inspire others. If you have a story to tell or expertise to share, I’d love to explore how we can amplify each other’s voices.
Nonprofits and Community Organizations: My work with civic and social organizations, such as the Red Cross and Color of Change, is a testament to my commitment to social impact. I’m interested in partnering with nonprofits and community organizations that focus on mental health, disaster preparedness, and social justice. Collaboration in these areas could involve volunteer initiatives, public speaking, or program development.
Business Leaders and Entrepreneurs: Scaling my work also involves tapping into the business world. Fashion and runway, Magazine recognition, rewards and social events. Entrepreneurs and business leaders who are aligned with my mission to empower individuals and communities can be key partners. Whether it’s through corporate wellness programs, leadership training, or community outreach, I’m excited to collaborate on initiatives that drive both personal and professional growth.
