Meet Drai$

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Drai$ a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Drai$ with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I honestly get my work ethic from my hard working parents and grand parents. My whole life I watched them hustle and struggle to provide for the whole family. So from a young age they taught me how to care for myself and work for the things I wanted. Whether it was through chores around the house or getting good grades in school they always instilled in me that hard work brings results and I’ve really carried those lessons along with me my whole life.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am an artist/song writer. And what I feel is most exciting about it is that I truly love what I do. I didn’t start off making music with the intention of ever pursuing a full time career. I honestly started writing music to just help clear my mind from all the stuff going on in my life. My whole life I’ve had a special talent with words and a valid love for music, and one day as a teenager I decided to use them both and create. One thing led to another and people started telling me that I had a talent that I should not ignore, so I started taking it serious and little by little it led to what i’m doing now. No I can’t say i’m any where near to where my goals are set but I am definitely proud of me and my team for building up what we’re putting out today. I have a lot of new articles and shows coming up so be on the look out! And not to mention a lot of new music amd merch dropping this year.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three important qualities I had to learn were Patience, Faith and Consistency. Obviously you can’t expect to blow up with your first song after your first recording session, so I had to learn to be patient and master my sound. That also goes to just being calm and not trying to force anything or getting upset during periods of time when the words just are not coming. Faith because you truly need to be your biggest fan and have faith in your art. You best believe your faith will be tested through rejection and hardships but that only separates the hustlers from the rest. And lastly consistency because it’s easy for someone to say they have a dream to be a star athlete or artist. But only the people who show up everyday whether it’s rain or shine, hot or cold and truly put the work in see the results. You can lie to yourself and everyone around you about what you do but you can’t fake the grind.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

Yes the fact that people are really into a sound that I just don’t make regularly. I am expanding my genres im which I want to explore in with my music and song writing. But I love to write and focus on the lyrics and meaning of the song and thats just not a huge thing people are helping blow up right now. I really believe I have my own sound and flow and I truly do try to put meaning behind most of my music without making it sound too boring or like I’m preaching. Obviously I understand different types of songs need to be made and collaborate with different artists. But I think this is the biggest thing holding the music back right now besides the obvious lack in support from a major label. I feel my music is really on the level where it just needs to be heard by the right person
