Dria, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I developed my confidence and self – esteem from learning to how to properly love myself and not being ashamed of my imperfections. I struggled with my self esteem at a young age. I had to learn what my own perception of beauty and confidence was and not what society and the media said it was. Growing up I often used to look in the mirror and find flaws. As I got older I starting looking in the mirror and giving myself daily affirmations. No matter how many people tell you you are beautiful or give you compliments; you have to truly believe it yourself and be confident in yourself.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a Nail Technician & Esthetician. I specialize in beauty enhancement services. I offer nail, lash, brow, & makeup services. I’ve been in my industry professionally now for 6 years. I’ve always had a passion for making people feel good as well as beauty. Being in the beauty industry allows me to do just that. I love seeing a clients face after their service is completed. I’ve met so many amazing people and gained so many opportunities during my journey. Out of the list of services I offer makeup is definitely one of my favorite things to do. Some of the most exciting moments I’ve had working is when I get to travel to do makeup. From the beautiful venues to the scenic views I love it all. I’ve been blessed with so many opportunities. I’ve had the opportunity to do makeup for a women’s body building competitions which was one of the most fun, out of the box experiences I’ve had. I strive to continue finding ways to grow as artist. I like taking courses or classes to keep me in the loop as to what’s new the beauty industry. I plan to continue learning new techniques and styles to offer to my clients.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three areas of knowledge that impacted my journey were; learning to accept constructive criticism, learning myself as an artist, and learning that each day is a new opportunity to improve and gain new knowledge or skills. If I could give any advice to upcoming artist, it would be that learning to accept constructive criticism is important, because you will receive a lot of it. Take in the criticism and use that as motivation to be better. Learning yourself as an artist is extremely beneficial to the success of your business. It is important to learn yourself and your style as an artist. Once you’ve done this it becomes easier to service your target audience. Another piece of advice I’d give would be to use each day as a platform for new opportunities and growth. Each day strive to be better with practice and dedication.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
The person who’s helped me the most in overcoming challenges and developing the skills I needed to be successful, would have to be God. There were a lot of times where I felt unsure of my purpose in my industry and what direction I was supposed to be going. Often in those times that I was unsure, he always sent some type of affirmation to tell me to keep going. I’m learning a lot as I go and I’m slowly starting to understand the meaning if “trust the process.” I’ve faced many challenges along the way and I’m aware there are more to come. I just keep my faith that the Lord will help and guide me through those times.
