Meet Drishti Verma

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Drishti Verma a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Drishti, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I draw my resilience from a combination of personal experiences, a supportive network, and a mindset that embraces challenges as opportunities for growth. Throughout my journey, I’ve faced setbacks and encountered unexpected obstacles, and it is in overcoming these challenges that I’ve developed resilience.

My upbringing and life experiences have instilled in me the importance of perseverance. My parents, in particular, played a significant role in teaching me the value of hard work and determination. They encouraged me to navigate through difficulties, fostering a mindset that views setbacks as stepping stones rather than roadblocks.

Additionally, being surrounded by a supportive network of friends, mentors, and colleagues has been crucial. Having people who believe in my capabilities and provide guidance during tough times has greatly contributed to my ability to bounce back from setbacks.

Furthermore, I actively cultivate a mindset that embraces failure as a natural part of the learning process. I believe that each challenge I face provides an opportunity to learn, adapt, and improve. This perspective allows me to approach difficulties with a growth mindset, seeing them not as insurmountable barriers but as chances to refine my skills and knowledge.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As the founder of ESKAE, I have always been inspired by the fantastical and eccentric aspects of art that push the boundaries of reality and imagination.

ESKAE is not just a silver jewelry brand; it’s a platform for individuals to explore their fantasies and express their artistry authentically. Our pieces are designed to provide a unique sense of luxury and ethereality, allowing customers to connect with a deeper part of themselves.

What sets ESKAE apart is the infusion of Indian mythology into my metalwork, creating pieces deeply rooted in cultural heritage. My journey from the National Institute of Fashion Design in New Delhi to Parsons in New York has allowed me to take inspiration to the next level. Through photography, I bring these stories to life, creating a world where imagination meets reality.

One aspect I find most exciting about my work is the power of storytelling. It’s a tool that goes beyond mere aesthetics; it engages our brand users on a deeper level, creating meaningful experiences. We believe in providing a space for individuals to embrace their own creativity and imagination, and ESKAE is the vessel for that expression.

As for what’s new, I’m thrilled to share that we are currently in the final stages of preparing a new collection that is set to launch later this year. This collection represents a culmination of creativity, craftsmanship, and a continued commitment to providing our customers with unique and meaningful pieces. Stay tuned for the unveiling of this exciting addition to the ESKAE journey!

In summary, ESKAE is not just a brand; it’s a movement that invites individuals to explore their unique creative journeys. I’m excited to share this story and connect with readers who resonate with the fusion of art, mythology, and empowerment that defines ESKAE.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge have significantly influenced my path. Firstly, resilience has been a guiding force in navigating challenges and uncertainties. Embracing setbacks as opportunities for growth has not only shaped my character but has been crucial in both personal and professional development.

Creativity and innovation stand out as pivotal elements in the realm of art and design. The ability to transcend conventional boundaries, experiment with novel ideas, and infuse a distinctive perspective into my work has been a defining factor in setting me apart.

Equally vital has been the unwavering commitment to continuous learning. Embracing change, evolving, and actively seeking knowledge through various channels, including formal education, self-directed learning, and mentorship, has played a fundamental role in my journey.

For those embarking on their own journey, my advice is to cultivate resilience by embracing challenges, treating setbacks as stepping stones, and maintaining a steadfast commitment to personal and professional goals. Fostering creativity involves exploring different artistic forms, collaborating with diverse minds, and allowing the freedom to express ideas without fear of judgment. Prioritizing learning, drawing insights from experiences, mistakes, and seeking guidance from mentors will contribute to embracing a growth mindset, fostering adaptability, and positioning individuals for long-term success.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I encounter moments of overwhelm, I’ve developed a set of strategies to regain balance and navigate through challenges effectively. Firstly, I prioritize taking a step back and gaining perspective on the situation. This often involves stepping away briefly, whether it’s a short walk, a few moments of deep breathing, or a change of environment. Creating this mental space helps me gain clarity and approach the situation with a fresh mindset.

Another key strategy is to break down the overwhelming tasks into smaller, more manageable components. By focusing on one step at a time, I can make progress without feeling daunted by the overall scope of the challenge. This approach not only makes the workload more digestible but also allows me to celebrate small victories along the way, boosting my confidence and motivation.

I also recognize the importance of seeking support. Whether it’s discussing challenges with a trusted colleague, friend, or mentor, sharing my thoughts and concerns helps alleviate the weight of overwhelm. Collaboration and receiving external perspectives often provide valuable insights and solutions.

In terms of advice, I would encourage others facing overwhelm to embrace self-compassion. Recognizing that it’s okay not to have all the answers and that everyone encounters challenging moments is crucial. Setting realistic expectations and being kind to oneself during stressful periods can contribute significantly to maintaining mental well-being.
