We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dro T. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dro below.
Hi Dro , so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?
The more I’ve walked into my purpose, destiny, and calling, the more I’ve experienced jealousy, hate, and envy. From 2019 until 2023? That’s a whole book and movie worthy story about constant and intense jealousy. I mean wicked, unnecessary levels of sabotage, betrayal, and hate. The bright side of things is that those experiences pushed me right into my destiny unknowingly.
One of my favorite Biblical stories is about Joseph in the book of Genesis. He was betrayed by his brothers and went through intense trials. Those trials were God pruning, refining, and preparing him for a greater purpose. When I look back at that specific time period, I think of Joseph’s story and the similarities to my story. By keeping God first and also forgiving people, I’ve learned to persist. People don’t attack what’s not worthy.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I want to share the multiple things I do in this interview. I own Vintagely Velma, a vintage store named after my great grandmother who was an entrepreneur. I also style and blog on my website The Dro Show. I’m an artist, illustrator, photographer, and jewelry designer with my art brand KLT Art. I also have a vegan food blog/content page called The Flyest Vegan.
I’m just an all around creator who is using literally all the gifts God gave me in every way possible and I hope it encourages other people to do the same.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One quality is waking to the beat of your own drum. It’s okay to be different and not like the crowd. The second is a skill, is consistency. A lot of people give up very easily especially when they don’t see instant success or results after a certain number of years. Sometimes you do have to reroute, rebrand, take a break, but being consistent and relentless about your goals and gifts is important because it teaches endurance.
Lastly, I would say learning humility is important. It’s so easy to be arrogant with obtaining material objects, success, and validation, especially with social media being a factor. However, it’s imperative to be grateful and humble along the way and when you get to your Promised Land.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did was pour into my art talents early. Once they realized I had a talent for drawing, they nourished it and made sure I was engaging in it in different art classes and programs throughout my youth years.
