Meet Drummond Fulcher

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Drummond Fulcher. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Drummond below.

Hi Drummond, really appreciate you joining us to talk about a really relevant, albeit unfortunate topic – layoffs and getting fired. Can you talk to us about your experience and how you overcame being let go?

I was working a dream job for a tech company for several years when I got let go after the company merged with another company back in 2021. When I got the call from my supervisor informing me that I was being let go I was in complete shock. Not even three months prior I had won an award for being a huge part of helping my company navigate the transition we had to make to remain up and running during the COVID pandemic. I went above and beyond my role to help provide the support the company needed to adjust to the new virtual conditions brought on by all the lockdowns. So when I got the news I had to figure out what that meant for me moving forward. Thankfully I wasn’t let go on the spot and had two months to figure some things out. Like I mentioned before this job was a dream job for me. I climbed the ladder very fast at this company and became a sales and leadership coach within the company and I absolutely fell in love with the role. Before I had found out about the news of me losing my job I had started a side hustle coaching business where I coached people on being more self empowered. When I got the bad news my first thoughts once I wrapped my mind around it was maybe I could use all that I’d learned from this job and apply it to my own coaching business and do that full time. So after the shock wore off I decided to look at the situation in a more positive light. I told people I looked at is as more of a graduation from the company that had taught me all that I could learn from them and now I needed to go and use what I learned in the world as an entrepreneur.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

As a coach I help people who are looking to turn their passions into their careers or side hustles. It’s a very rewarding career to get to sit with people and their passions and help them turn it into something they can make a living from. To often people leave their passions behind because they’ve been told they won’t be able to make a living off of doing it. A lot of people end up working jobs they hate and that eventually affects everything else in their lives. I help people find creative ways to bring their passions back into their lives and help them build healthy relationships and boundaries so they won’t leave them behind again.
We live in a day and age where there are so many resources at our disposal and I work to help my clients find which resources will work for them and the business model they’d like to have. It is totally possible to have a career that you love waking up to each and every single day. Having a job that doesn’t feel like work is such an amazing thing and I’d love for every person in the world to know what that feels like.
I’ve offered several workshops and seminars around the journeys people must take to start their entrepreneurial careers. I really love working with people one on one because it really gives us the time to deep dive into their ideal careers and build something that’s unique to their desired outcomes. I’ve also found a lot pleasure in speaking at college campuses or career fairs sharing with people the benefits of building their own company and learning from experiences along the way. I’ve also worked with a lot of existing business owners to renew their passions for their business. Sometimes business owners invest so much time and money into their business and then somewhere along the way fall out of love with their business but feel stuck with it because of how much they’ve invested into it’s existence. I love working with people in this space because I believe that a business in this situation has tons of opportunities to reignite the spark that once existed by creating some new opportunities for the owners to fall back in love with their business. So whether you’re a person looking to launch a new business or side hustle or you’re someone who’s got a business you’re just not in love with anymore I’m the coach for you. I will help you connect or reconnect with your passions so we can build a business that you love going into everyday to work.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think the most important things I’ve learned along the way is creating healthy boundaries for yourself where you let others know right from the start that you are someone they have to respect. When you set time aside for yourself and your goals you have to stand by those commitments to yourself as if they are for a paying client you are setting time aside for.
Another important quality I think people need to learn early on in their journey is creating healthy habits for themselves. The things you do repeatedly become who you are and I think a lot of people I’ve met have said that once they are at their desired outcome they will start doing the things that they should be doing. Instead people need to realize that habits are built over time and it’s not just a thing you start doing once you become who you want to be. Your habits help turn you into the person you’re aiming to be. So make sure you pay attention to the things you’re doing consistently.
The last thing I think more people need to realize is your network really does impact the life you live. It’s so important to surround yourself with people who will encourage you to grow as a professional. Pay attention to how the people you spend the most time with talk. The language they use around success and growth will greatly impact the way you see those two things. I think as a society we think we’ve grown closer to one another due to our access to each others social media platforms but in all actuality we’ve grown further apart from each other. One of the resources I share with clients I work with is a list of people you should have in your immediate professional network and so many of them are surprised how many boxes are left unchecked. Our networks usually start to shrink as we get older and it requires intentional effort to grow it.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I love getting the opportunity to collaborate with other professionals. A dream of mine is to be able to speak at conferences about the things I know are important when it comes to connecting fellow professionals to their work through their passions. I truly believe the businesses that are built around allowing their teams to exist in their passions are the strongest and most successful businesses out there. The reason most people leave their jobs is because their work drains them and doesn’t leave them feeling fulfilled. If you can build a model where your team’s strengths are being utilized you’ll have a thriving business. As a business strategist one of my favorite things to do is to sit down with business owners and come up with new ways to bring their teams together and create a work environment that grows people’s enthusiasm around the success of the company by connecting their passions to their roles within the organization.
