Meet Dub Shakes

We were lucky to catch up with Dub Shakes recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Dub with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
In one word, Grandma.

My Grandmother was an entrepreneur and buisness owner. She raised 3 daughters by herself and at 42, started a catering business that would employ most of the family.

For me growing up was all about the service industry. My Grandmother specialized in catering for weddings, and my Mother designed and made the wedding cakes.

From age 10 – 16 I worked in the business, wether it was putting down plates for cake to be placed on, or clearing tables, offering drink refills and just engaging in small talk. It was always about SERVICE!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’ve been in music since age 10 where I learned to play drums. I have had a 15+ year career providing recording and mixing services mainly in the LA area. I have a multi-room facility in Burbank called “The Gold Wav” where most of the magic happens! I’m dedicated to producing amazing content at a premium level, as are my team.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Patience, Understanding, Communication

As an engineer Patience is the main thing you will need to have while spending hours and says on minutes and seconds.

Understanding what the client is trying to convey or do with their song or sound is imperative to the job.

Communication is very important both ways. For you to understand what the client wants, and for you to describe what you are doing to get it there.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always looking to collaborate with creatives. I’d like to just have nice, business savvy folks around. The business is already full of snakes and sharks. I’m looking to build a family style environment.
