Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Duncan Emmons. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Duncan, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
An incredible amount of failure. In my life, and especially within my acting profession, I have faced many failures and rejections. While it might sound counter-intuitive, those rejections and failures make the successes that much sweeter, and of course it means you have to invest so hard into believing into yourself and knowing your identity. Thats the only way you can present it to the world without psychological distress. The high likely hood of failure means you make the most of your time around it, you develop many ways to self-soothe, build a support network and have fun

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am an actor, probably the most common reason someone is in L.A.. I moved out here a little under two years ago for my acting career and have been making the most of it since. Before moving out here I was living in Wyoming for school, and Colorado before that. In my case, my brand is essentially “Me”, so I’m always most excited to present my full authentic self and all the chaos and energy that comes with that. As an actor, who you are really bleeds into your work, every character you play comes from you and your experiences.
There’s been a lot of new developments and events since last time we talked. I’ve been part of some wonderful productions, some that are still in development. The most interesting development has for sure been my involvement in a skit making group, @sothisishappening. We make fun short skits and post them across all the socials we can.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Resilience, Passion and Authenticity. Those are also some values I hold very close to my heart. In life, but especially in an artistic career field, you gotta be resilient. You’re going to struggle and want to give up. Never do that, keep going for as long as you can. Passion goes along with that, feed your passions, make it a career if you can, but also just do it for the hell of it. Do it because you’re passionate about doing it. Authenticity I think gets overlooked a lot, it goes in line with what everyone is saying all the time, “be yourself”. I think it’s more than that, you need to be open to letting yourself grow and change, be okay with making mistakes and forgiving yourself.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
I would be doing exactly what I’m doing right now. Living my life on my terms and without any regrets. I’m chasing my dream and keeping time to follow through on all of my other passion projects, spend time with friends, and see the beautiful area I’m living in. If I did that for the next decade, I doubt I would worry that it was poorly spent
