Durana, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Growing up as a young Afghan immigrant, I experienced life in a household where cultural norms restricted women from pursuing careers outside the home. This upbringing ignited a relentless determination within me to chase my dreams as a woman. My aspirations included obtaining a college education, raising a family, and excelling as a businesswoman. The impact of my work, not only as a leader but also as a role model to other women, continues to fuel my motivation to work tirelessly day in and day out.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
The most thrilling aspect of my role is contributing to the creation of a better world, both internally and externally. Internally, I take pride in supporting my team and fostering a work environment where they eagerly look forward to each day. Our recent recognition by Inc. as one of the best small businesses to work at in the country fills me with immense gratitude. Knowing that our employees feel safe, comfortable, and welcomed at the office is incredibly rewarding.
Externally, I am always excited about our ability to empower individuals to take control of their health and lead lives with intention. Our latest venture, Cymbiotika Home, is particularly thrilling. With this new line, we can now extend our support to our customers within the comfort of their own homes.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities that stand out as the most impactful: my work ethic, self-belief, and unwavering integrity. These qualities really go hand in hand, especially as a founder; it’s crucial to have a shar focus on your goal, be confident in your ability to achieve that, and work hard to do so. My advice to those in the early stages of their journey is to always keep sight of your “why.” Understanding your purpose and the reasons that drive you forward are essential for staying on your path and pursuing your goals.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I attribute a great deal of my strengths to the remarkable women in my life, including my family, friends, mentors and the team at Cymbiotika. My mother has always served as an inspiring figure, urging me to be a strong woman and tirelessly pursue my dreams. My daughters, too, inspire me daily to be a better woman, mother, and contributor to this world. Their support has been invaluable in my journey.
