Meet Durell Robinson

We were lucky to catch up with Durell Robinson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Durell, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

As a pastor called to minister to those who have felt the weight of isolation and limitations, I understand the transformative power of pain and the profound lessons it can impart. Just as the Apostle Paul embraced his calling to the outcast minority, I too have found my purpose through the crucible of challenges that have marked my journey. In the depths of despair and loneliness, I discovered that pain has a unique ability to strip away the veneer of pride and unveil the truths that pride often obscures. It is through our struggles and our wounds that we are often best equipped to minister to others who are walking a similar path of hardship and hardship.

Embracing the motto that “Pain will teach you what pride won’t let you learn,” I have come to realize that our deepest wounds can become the source of our greatest strength and empathy. Through vulnerability and authenticity, we can forge deep connections with those who have felt marginalized and overlooked, offering a beacon of hope and understanding in a world that can often feel cold and indifferent. Just as my own pain has shaped my calling and ministry, I stand ready to walk alongside those who have felt the sting of isolation and limitation, sharing in their struggles and offering a message of resilience, healing, and redemption.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I have found three skills to be particularly impactful on my journey to success: reading, asking questions, and application. Reading has been a cornerstone of my growth, providing me with valuable knowledge, diverse perspectives, and critical insights that have broadened my horizons and sharpened my thinking. By immersing myself in books, articles, and resources, I continuously challenge myself to learn, adapt, and evolve.

Asking questions has been a powerful tool in my personal and professional development. Through curiosity and a willingness to seek clarity, I have deepened my understanding of complex issues, fostered meaningful connections with others, and expanded my perspective. Engaging in thoughtful conversations and actively seeking new insights has not only enhanced my learning but also enriched my interactions with those around me.

Application, the third key skill, has been essential in translating knowledge into action and turning ideas into tangible results. By applying what I have learned through reading and questioning, I have been able to experiment with different approaches, learn from experiences, and adapt my strategies to achieve success. Taking decisive actions, embracing challenges, and learning from both successes and failures have been crucial in propelling me forward.

To further develop and improve these skills, I commit to cultivating a habit of lifelong learning through consistent reading and exploration of diverse topics. I will actively seek opportunities to ask questions, engage in meaningful conversations, and deepen my understanding of the world around me. By practicing the application of my knowledge and insights in real-world scenarios, experimenting with different solutions, and reflecting on outcomes, I aim to refine my skills and approach to continue growing and achieving success on my journey.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed, I find solace in turning to prayer and leaning on my faith for strength and guidance. One effective strategy that I have found helpful in using prayer to overcome anxiety is to practice mindfulness and gratitude during prayer.

Firstly, I create a quiet and peaceful space where I can focus on connecting with my inner self and with a higher power. I take a few deep breaths to center myself and clear my mind of any distractions. Then, I begin my prayer by expressing gratitude for the blessings in my life, acknowledging the positives, no matter how small they may seem.

Next, I focus on the present moment and bring awareness to my thoughts and feelings. I consciously release any worries or anxieties that may be weighing me down, surrendering them to a higher power. I allow myself to be fully present in the moment, letting go of past concerns and future uncertainties.

As I continue to pray, I reflect on positive affirmations and scriptures that resonate with me, reinforcing my faith and trust in Jesus. I seek comfort in the belief that I am not alone in facing challenges and that there is a greater plan beyond my current struggles.

Finally, I conclude my prayer with a sense of peace and renewed strength, knowing that I have released my anxieties and fears into Capable Hands. I carry this sense of calm and faith with me throughout the day, allowing it to guide me through difficult moments and provide reassurance in times of uncertainty.

By incorporating mindfulness, gratitude, and faith into my prayer practice, I am able to cultivate a sense of inner peace, resilience, and hope that helps me overcome anxiety and navigate life’s challenges with grace and courage.
