Meet Dwayne Parker

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dwayne Parker. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dwayne below.

Dwayne , so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

My optimism comes from a strong faith in Jesus Christ. Being a Christian and believing in God and his promises give me great hope in the future because I know that I have the creator in my corner and he is well tested. I am able to take risks and to have no regrets in any decision that I seek his counsel in. One of the verses of the Bible that I found most impactful in my journey is found in the book of wisdom, Proverbs, chapter 3, verse 5 and 6: “Trust in the the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all they ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths.” Developing a strong faith is key in preserving and developing optimism. When I find myself becoming a little negative I find reading the accounts of people like David, Job, Samson and Samuel from the Bible positively reassuring for me.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am an actor, director, producer and filmmaker. I am also a guidance counselor at a local high school. So I have two areas that I focus on constantly. When it comes to entertainment, my only goal is to create a legacy of quality on film, whether in front or behind the camera. I do this primarily through acting and through production with Knight 7 productions. I love the the medium of film and how you can create stories full of emotion that have the ability to leave an impression on you forever. There are movies and shows that have impacted me and stick with me until today. Some of my favorites are: Richard Donner’s Superman, Meet Joe black, The Raid, Kill Bill, Desperado, ET, Mission Impossible series, Knight Rider, Rosewood, Three’s company, Married with Children, True Detective, Raised with Wolves. That’s just to name a few. I want to play and create characters that evoke emotion and can change your perception on things that are important in life.

I’m currently working on the sequel to my ward winning independent film, VEX, which is currently streaming on Amazon Prime right now. Please watch and leave a review. There is a great deal of pressure with sequels and initially I wanted to go in a different direction but then I thought that I may be better to create a universe that I can tell multiple stories from so I am excited to bring a different story to the audience that is exciting and different. Always different. That’s what I aim for. Stay tuned for updates, you can follow the Instagram @vexreloaded for more updates. I am also working on my first daytime talk show as an executive producer and director. I have an amazing talent by the name of Kathleen Liautaud, which the show is named after who works with me under Knight 7 Productions as a producer and director as well. I believe she is a hidden gem in this industry and will bring in a new style of talk to daytime television. We are working on our first season with some exciting guests and surprises. You can follow the show on instagram @the.kaye.liautaud.show. Lastly, I am working with my longtime partner and collaborator on the second season of Asunder the Series. This season is going to be one of the hottest daytime soap operas that you will see and we are getting back into the lab to finish writing and filming the last few episodes. You can follow Asunder @asundertheseries

In my world as a guidance counselor. My first priority is the students, the children. Helping to keep them positive in a system that is not built for them. The system is focused on numbers and money. Kids come last. I want them to be first. President Obama’s last initiative My Brother’s and My Sister’s Keeper helps with that by helping students of color achieve greatness by providing opportunities that can help mold and encourage them. Since 2018, I have advised a chapter of young men and women and encouraged student run initiatives, which develops leadership and teamwork among young men and women.
It has been proven that two parent households are the best environment to raise a child yet they still encourage division and separation in our schools by promoting boys vs girls. It is okay to have girl only clubs and boy only clubs but I like to have them work together to learn from and support each other. How can they ever learn to understand each other and communicate effectively if we only promote boys only and girls only spaces. The young men and women in my chapter talk, debate, learn and support each other. They are able to do amazing things together because they learned to communicate and cooperate which pays dividends by making actual change in their schools and community.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three most important qualities that have impacted my journey until this day are: Faithfulness, Patience, and Respect.
My faith in Jesus Christ has allowed me to believe in myself. Understanding there is a plan, a promise and a finale gives me confidence that I can take risks and believe in my dream and no matter what I will achieve what I am to achieve as long as I put the work in.
Patience is necessary. It can prevent mistakes from happening and pave the path to success if you’re smart. Knowing when to take an opportunity, when not to. I think of how this quality impacts me to this day as I wasn’t always patient. It reminds me of the popular Kenny Rogers song, The Gambler. Many rush into things not understanding that if you just wait and ask for God’s counsel your path in life can be different.
Finally Respect. This is something I live by as I am a very respectful person by choice. It must be the Canadian in me. I believe it is the foundation for peace, love and happiness. I believe that you must respect all art forms, all people, time, health, everything. I never said like but the respect must exist. You approach everything encounter in life differently if you respect it as opposed to you not respecting it. People’s egos and bias prevent them from respecting others and certain things and it can be detrimental to their goals and success.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

The book that has played the most important role in my development is the King James Version of the Bible. This goes back to my Christian faith and love of Jesus Christ. One of the verses that I found most impactful in my journey is found in the book of Luke, chapter 9, verse 26. It states, “For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s and of the holy angels.” This reminds me that I should never be ashamed to give the true captain of my success the praise he deserves for getting me this far and have the confidence that he will continue to do so.
I also like Isaiah 54 verse 17 which reads ” No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn….” This reminds me that I am protected by the forces that stand against me and relieves me of worrying about the negative things others may do to stop my growth and development.
Finally, Ephesians chapter 6 verses 11-23 which reads: Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places….”
Having an understanding that my strength, my intelligence, my knowledge, my destiny and everything that I am comes from above gives me a comfort that is comforting. Not allowing worry and anxiety to dictate my actions to a degree where it cripples me is important and that is why the Bible and the comfort God’s word brings, are very valuable to me.
