We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dylan Bloyed a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dylan, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
My optimism is rooted in the values my mom instilled in me and the life experiences that have taught me resilience. She shared stories of her own challenges growing up, like moving through eight different schools in twelve years, one year even going to three different schools. Despite these disruptions, she always managed to stay positive and lift others up. Her example showed me that even in tough times, there’s a way to keep focused, stay calm, and inspire the people around you.
As a father of five, including my daughter born with health challenges and twin boys born premature, I’ve been reminded of the strength it takes to stay positive in the face of chaos. Moving back to my hometown, leaving a high-paying job to support my wife through postpartum depression, was one of the hardest decisions I made, but I knew it was right for my family. I had to see it not as a setback, but as a new opportunity to keep pushing forward.
With over fifteen years of leadership experience, I’ve come to see optimism as essential—not just for myself, but for the teams I lead. Even if I’m feeling the pressure, staying optimistic gives others confidence. It’s a skill I started developing as a young athlete and team captain, where learning to stay composed and hopeful under pressure became second nature. Optimism isn’t just a trait; it’s a practice that helps me tackle challenges, motivate others, and believe that every tough moment has something to teach us.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m the host of the Business Leaders of America podcast, where I interview top leaders across the country—from entrepreneurs and CEOs to innovators and industry experts. I aim to share their insights, the challenges they’ve overcome, and the strategies they’ve used to reach their goals. Alongside this, I run Bloyed Performance Consulting, where I help companies enhance employee engagement and retention, which is crucial in today’s competitive market.
Recently, I partnered with Rick Conlow International, which brings over 25 years of experience in employee engagement and service excellence, with an impressive record of 48 quality service awards. I’m also working with Plan, Scale, Exit, offering companies innovative employee benefit solutions like the CHAMP Plan, a Section 125 health care plan that costs employers nothing while increasing employees’ take-home pay. Another exciting development is my partnership with the C-Suite Network, the world’s fastest-growing media company, where I contribute to their diverse platforms in radio, TV, and podcasting.
Transitioning from a corporate background to running my own business has opened doors I never imagined. The connections and relationships I’ve built with some of the nation’s most impactful leaders are just the beginning, and I’m excited to see where this journey leads next.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three qualities that have had the most significant impact on my journey are: (1) never being satisfied with where I am, (2) a commitment to continuous learning, and (3) building connections and seeking advice from others.
First, the importance of never being satisfied cannot be overstated. It’s easy to get comfortable and settle into day-to-day routines, but as I’ve learned time and time again, if you’re not progressing, you’re regressing. Growth requires that drive to keep improving, to keep setting new goals, and to stay focused on the bigger picture.
Second, continuous learning has been essential. There is so much information out there today—podcasts, books, and videos—on every topic imaginable. Make the effort to tap into these resources, because they provide powerful tools to help you reach the next level in any field.
Finally, don’t be afraid to reach out for advice and mentorship. Through my podcasting, I’ve realized that people at the top of their fields are often incredibly generous with their knowledge and insights. Many leaders are willing to share what they’ve learned without expecting anything in return, and their guidance can be invaluable. If you’re just starting out, lean into these resources and connections, and don’t hesitate to ask for support or insight from those who have already paved the way.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
One book that has played an essential role in my development is The Power of One More by Ed Mylett. This book has been a game-changer for me, especially in challenging times, whether personal or professional. Ed’s approach revolves around the idea of focusing on “one more”—one more day, one more rep, one more hour, one more moment of pushing through.
The beauty of The Power of One More lies in its simplicity: rather than overwhelming ourselves with huge, daunting goals like committing to a year or five years, Ed encourages focusing on small, incremental steps. That mindset—just doing one more—compounds over time and builds true resilience. This approach applies to everything: finances, business, health, relationships. By taking it day by day, hour by hour, those small actions add up, and before you know it, you look back and see how much progress you’ve made.
