Meet Dylan Garcia

We recently connected with Dylan Garcia and have shared our conversation below.

Dylan , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
Every morning when you wake up, you head to the bathroom and you must look at yourself in the mirror. I’m hoping the reflection you see is someone you’re proud of.

I know when I’m giving 110%, I’m proud of the reflection I see in the mirror.
But when I’m not giving life my best, I’ll get angry at the reflection and I know I must course correct. I believe that you must have the discipline and grit to pull yourself out of a dark place and when I say “dark place,” I mean… not being on track towards my goals. This mentality makes me effective, successful and helps me provide value towards every aspect of life.

I believe that success is a mindset and it is not anything of monetary value. Everyone’s definition of success is different.

I’m simple. Having a full tank of gas is success to me, because I know how it feels to not have a vehicle. Having food and shelter is a big win, because I remember when I was broke and homeless. This gives me an attitude of gratitude which breeds confidence.

My confidence comes from knowing I’m not waiting for someone to cheer me on or tell me what to do.
I know I must do my best, to be my best.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As a recording artist, my passion drives me to be creative. Creativity is great for my mental health. EspecialIy when I challenge myself to make great records. Music is my therapy.

I have my own recording studio where I create, record vocals, mix and run the track through an AI mastering service I’m associated with. I’m behind every aspect of making the records to different compositions I receive from Eclectic, Abel Beats or JunioR Beatz.

Also, there’s a certain essence you need to create great records. I’m constantly learning and progressing with every song I create. I believe being a sponge and soaking up all the knowledge I’ve gained working with legendary record producers like Ronnie King, DJ Tony G and Kenny O’Brien throughout my professional career that began in 2009, has helped me tremendously

What excites me the most is that my music is finally begin to hit worldwide. I worked so hard for many years not knowing if success will ever come in the music industry. But I was determined to make it happen.

My record “Open Roads,” was released early January. It has opened many doors and quickly grown into a song that has been well received throughout the world and gaining me new fans every day.

On May 3rd, I will be releasing my 4th project of 2024, titled “California Dreams,” which is a super funky record about Lowriding and those unique Summer Vibes that California is known for. It definitely has a smooth flow with an addictive melody that will have you vibing all summer long.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Well the first quality has to be grit. You must have thick skin to be in this business.

The second quality would have to be innovation.
You have to be able to stand out in a saturated market and raise the standards for the type of music you want to create. What makes your product different?

Thirdly, you gotta own it. You must be willing to take constructive criticism and not let your ego get the best of you. Especially when you’re first starting out and all you hear is, “It’s not good enough.”
Here’s a helpful tip, They say you gotta write 300 songs to finally get a good one. So keep writing!

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
“Winning” by Tim Grover is a fantastic book.

After listening to his interview with Ed Mylett, I had to read the book.

I’ve learned a lot about myself and related to this book so much.

It’s about a standard that you must reach for everyday. Tim Grover was the trainer for Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade and several other legends in life. Winning isn’t promised to you and you must work for it every day. Winning must be an obsession.

I related to the book so much because, after every big performance I’ve ever had, I’m ready for the next one. I’m ready to climb the next mountain. The work you put in everyday, the discipline to keep getting better is what separates you from the crowd. Sometimes your in the valley, and you start climbing the mountain again. Then your at the top of the mountain looking at the next mountain you gotta climb. That’s winning.
