Dylan, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

Music. Learning a musical instrument and sticking with it is difficult thing. You simply have to keep at it or your skills begin to slip. Understanding that simple concept has helped me enormously in all areas of my life.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m a musician and musical educator. Music is special. It’s everywhere. The birds are singing in the natural world, the vibrations of musical instruments and otherwise are powerful. (Good Vibes). People always talk about Harmony in their lives and music is one of the best examples of that. Do you want to live in harmony or in dissonance? I choose harmony and I’m trying my hardest to find that in all my relationships and my everyday life.

What is special about pursuing music as a career is that there is no clear path or clear destination. Music brings you places, helps you meet people, and spreads joy and love everywhere it goes. I just decided to let it take me where it wants.

Music has brought me all over the world, helped me find my lovely wife, helps me sustain the finances of myself and my 4 dependents, and brought me to Nyack NY where my family and business are located. I would be dead or in prison if I hadn’t let it find me.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Just keep going. Don’t give up. Make sure it’s interesting and fun!

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

They encouraged me to be myself, question everything, and pursue my interests.
Which I encourage everyone I know to do.
