We recently connected with Easton Max Edwin and have shared our conversation below.
Easton Max, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
Self-care is crucial to maintaining a healthy work-life balance, and truthfully keeping ourselves sane in sometimes very stressful environments. The greatest part about “self-care” is that it is so unique to each person. For me, it is living a healthy and active lifestyle. Our bodies and minds are synced, so it is important to remember that they can affect each other. Eating clean (a couple cheat meals in there each week for moderation), an active lifestyle (some kind of exercise 5-6 days a week early in the morning before I start my workday), and time off to travel, is my self-care routine.
For me, traveling enriches my life in many ways that most other things can’t. It gives me a chance to grow, learn and evolve as a person, while also letting me live a life different than my every day. Traveling also enables me to “reset”, and that is how I maintain my effectiveness. Resetting gives me clear eyes, and a clear mind to focus on the next task at hand. It enables me to work smarter, and it also helps get my creative juices flowing again.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
For the last 14 years, I have worked in the entertainment industry in casting and talent production, primarily for the unscripted/reality and docu space. My background goes from development, to pre-production, through production. I also have 7 years prior experience in the fashion industry working in styling, visual merchandising, wholesale, retail, advertising, graphic design and buying.
Working in entertainment is exciting for me because I enjoy meeting every person that I speak to, and I have a passion for being able to bring out someone’s true self and personality. The most special part for me is being able to make someone feel comfortable on camera, which is not always a comfortable space for someone to be their authentic, vulnerable self.
Some exciting new updates for projects that I have worked on include Season 5 of HGTV’s hit series, Ugliest House in America, which just aired this May 2024. We have a fun new spooky spinoff as well making its premiere in October 2024, just in time for the Halloween season, Scariest House in America! Season 6 of Ugliest House in America is set to air in 2025. These were some really fun shows to work on, and I can’t wait for you to check them out!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Can I only pick three?! As in any industry, there is quite a laundry list of skills, qualities, and areas of knowledge that are super impactful to give you the foundation to succeed in your field.
If I had to pick only three, I would say first and foremost work ethic. It is so important to do the job that you are paid for. Be the best that you can be. Don’t settle to just “get by”, but work hard so that you can continue to learn and grow in your career. That brings me to the second, learning. Never be afraid to learn more, or ask questions. There will always be more to learn and it is so important to realize that no, we do not know everything. Accept new skills and information with open arms. It will help you grow both professionally, and personally. Third, but definitely not least, organization. While it might seem like a secondary skill or quality, organization is truly the foundation for success. It will help keep your head clear, and it will also help from burnout. Organization is a way of giving your work and personal life structure and calmness.
For those early on in their journey and looking to better improve on these skills, it takes time, practice, an open-mind, and determination. Let’s remember, “Rome was not built in a day”. These are life and career skills that continuously get improved upon and worked on.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Colleagues, mentors, friends and family have all been hugely impactful in aiding me in overcoming challenges, and developing essential skills for success. It is so important to learn and grow, and who you speak to and the people you surround yourself with, all have amazing skills and knowledge to contribute to your life and growth. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, listen, and watch/hear others experiences. Knowledge is power, experiences are lessons, and growth is essential to becoming the best version of yourself.
