Meet EB Rebel

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful EB Rebel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with EB below.

EB, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I fell in love with music at a young age, and I felt like it was something I should be taking seriously. But in society, pursuing the arts is not celebrated, more practical dreams are. I focused my energy on college, and becoming a lawyer. I did well in school, and would have been a successful lawyer, but my heart just wasn’t in it. So I decided it was no better time than to pursue my true dream of being a musician. Even when things are tough and seem dark, becoming the best musician I can keeps me going. To help people with my art is truly my purpose. To be the type of inspirational artist I looked up to.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a genreless artist that makes all types of music. I began my career in hip hop, and still often live in that lane. But I do like to incorporate other genres and styles that I have been inspired by as a kid. I am a African American non binary person, so my identity is deeply rooted in my work. The goal is to raise awareness and serve as representation of my communities using my art.

Something I am always asked is if I write my own music, and the answer is yes, 100%. So that is another big part of my artistry, I am a songwriter. for myself and others. I also creative direct all of my projects and music videos.

I just released a new EP called THE GIRL IS A FLOWER on August 25th. I have a new video from that project releasing sometime in September.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three biggest qualities/skills that helped develop myself as an artist would be creativity, ingenuity, and musicality. Those qualities allow me to really dig in and be a little fearless about trying new things.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
I was raised by a village of strong women that set the example of resilience. My mom in particular has always supported my individualism and encouraged me to be a independent thinker. The older I get, the more I realize how rare that is in society, especially with social media. She is also the most loving mother and strongest ally I know. My aunt, which I loved like a second mother, always provided a safety net and a voice of reason. Some would call her the “EB whisperer”.
