Meet Ebone Tarver

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ebone Tarver a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Ebone, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I believe I didn’t find my purpose, my purpose found me. All my experiences brought me to where I am today. I wasn’t searching for my purpose, I was just connecting the dots on what I enjoyed doing and what actually filled me at the end of the day. I would take pieces of every experience, a gain or loss, and reflect. When I got closer and closer to finding out what my purpose was my experiences reflected that. My cup was overflowing and I noticed a hobby turn into a purpose before my eyes.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hi everyone, My name Is Ebone, your favorite Bridal Makeup Artist located here in Atlanta, Ga. I’ve worked as a freelance makeup artist for the past 4 years now with a year and a half solely in the bridal industry. While accepting my everyday clients I noticed the demand in the wedding industry as far as the lack of professional Makeup Artist. As the more inquiries I’d received I started to do my research within the industry & grew to love the entire process. The most fulfilling thing about what I do, aside from the makeup, it’s the bond and trust I create with my bride on a special day in her life. The bond we are able to create in a 9-10 hour day alone lets me know I’m not just walking in my purpose but I’m one of the lucky ones for my purpose to align with my passion. When I first started freelancing I knew I wanted my business to grow beyond the salon suite. My purpose was not overbooked in a salon suite. I was searching for a lane for the long run and when I found bridal I gave it my all. As a newbie still in the industry I have exciting plans already in the works. I Will be attending The Georgia & Wedding Expo, which will connect me face to face with my community. I will also be launching online courses and live Master classes in the near future.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back I would have to say one thing that was impactful in my journey is realizing fear is not real. You don’t know what you can’t accomplish until you try & if the end result isn’t what you planned for then the best part about it all is you’ll never start over from square one again. Confidence was a big part of my growth personally and professionally. If you don’t have confidence in your craft anyone can sense it. The most impactful of it all was to become an expert of your study/craft. In order to become an expert takes the discipline to intact knowledge from every angle of your craft and be able to translate it to a person with no knowledge with understanding. In your journey early on I suggest focus on making one thing 100% at a time. Having too many projects at 30% is no progress compared to one project at 100%.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was believe in me. My wildest decisions they agreed to and never doubted me. When I came to my mom about wanting to be a Makeup Artist she pointed me in the right direction with an excellent mentor and the rest was history.
