Meet Ebonee B

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ebonee B. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ebonee below.

Ebonee, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from overcoming the deep challenges I faced in my childhood, including abandonment, separation from my siblings, and navigating the foster care system. These experiences taught me to never stop believing in my own worth, no matter the hardships. I’ve had to stand up for myself, often being misunderstood and labeled negatively. But even through all the judgments, I fought not for others’ validation but for my own. I’ve learned to love myself despite the flaws and mistakes, and I’m proud of the strength that has carried me through homelessness, loss, and the isolation of being a single parent. Through it all, I’ve held on to my will to keep moving forward, knowing that no matter how hard life gets, there’s always a way up.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I create custom crochet items and copper jewelry, teach virtual yoga, and craft natural products like skincare, teas, and health elixirs. I’m currently rebranding my natural product line, which will relaunch early next year. I have a vision of having my own yoga studio/herbal shop where I’ll be growing all my herbs that go into my products, I also have an herbalism course paid for that I’ll be taking as well. My focus is on bringing all my skills together to create a brand that nurtures and empowers others on multiple levels. Each crochet piece is crafted with love to give confidence and joy, while my custom copper jewelry is designed to promote healing and emotional well-being. Yoga, for me, goes beyond poses—it’s about helping my students find mental peace and balance in their daily lives. I’m also expanding my yoga practice to in-person sessions soon, and I’m excited to do more with children, as I’m currently taking up a CDA (child development associate class) which will enhance me helping them navigate life with a healthy mindset.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, the three most impactful qualities on my journey have been strength, the willingness to take risks, and self-belief. Strength is crucial because, starting out, things won’t always go as planned—money may be inconsistent, and success takes time. The second is not being afraid to take risks and ask for help. Networking with those who have more experience can open doors and bring valuable insights. Lastly, believing in yourself, even when others can’t see your vision, is key. For anyone early in their journey, I encourage you to stay resilient, take calculated risks, trust your intuition, and never hesitate to reach out for guidance.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I feel overwhelmed, I turn to the box breathing method, where I inhale for a count of 4 and exhale for a count of 4, repeating until I feel calmer. Walking, cleaning, listening to music, and having dance parties are also my go-tos. I love “dancing it out,” inspired by Cristina and Meredith from *Grey’s Anatomy*—and it’s also great for shifting my kids’ moods. One of the main reasons I started my creative endeavors was to manage my PTSD and anxiety. I’m a big advocate for hobbies because they channel stagnant energy and frustrations. However, when I’m feeling down, I avoid working on anything for others because I don’t want that energy to transfer into my creations. My advice is to find what calms you, whether it’s breathing exercises, movement, or creative outlets, and make it a part of your routine.
