Meet Ebonie Commey

We recently connected with Ebonie Commey and have shared our conversation below.

Ebonie, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Alot of the time I’ve underestimated my abilities across many different spaces. As a content creator it can be extremely intimidating seeing larger creators land certain opportunities.
I had to realize how far I’ve come from the beginning stages of my content, creation, and where I am now. I have evolved. I have also grown a lot in terms of the kind of content I make and my editing styles and the kinds of people I’ve associated myself with. And I know wholeheartedly, the kind of content I make and create has greatly improved since when I started and that’s when I started to embody who I truly am. By being myself by being authentic and just having fun.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a content creator based in the DMV where you’ll find me happily sharing my new cafe finds, whipping up some unique food creation and capturing special moments of living!

Life can have it’s curveballs but being a creator has taught me a lot about self revelation, friend dynamics and how adept my abilities are!

Lately I’ve broadened my horizon to include lifestyle and fun events that are enjoyable, fun yet different with my audience.

I am also doing event planning and providing luxurious picnics with my company Whimsical Utopia & Co. You can find us on Instagram as @wucodmv

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think being consistent, having tenacity and being authentic and open minded has gotten me far.

I’ve been consistent with creating content which is giving me more visibility. I have stood firm despite some set backs and self doubt and I have welcomed open mindedness to broaden the kinds of content I create which has gotten me to this point .

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

I was raised by my stepmom (until her passing ) and my father and the most impactful thing that was done for me was to live back home in Ghana for 4 years.

I was born and raised in Chicago but I stayed in Ghana from ages 11-14.

This is where I truly developed a relationship with God, discovered who I really am as a person, learned 3 languages and more.

I am forever grateful for that decision as I know with every fiber of my being that I wouldn’t be who I am today without that experience.
