We recently connected with Ebony Berry and have shared our conversation below.
Ebony , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
“Why Choosing Me—One Cup at a Time—Changed Everything”
My resilience comes from a lifetime of reinvention, resourcefulness, and remembering that every setback is simply a chance to steep a little longer. I learned early on to build my own doors when none opened. That spirit carried me through nearly two decades in corporate leadership, an unexpected job elimination, and the brave leap into entrepreneurship. What keeps me going—especially on the days when the kettles are boiling over, and plans go sideways—is my deep belief in community, creativity, and purpose. Tea taught me that slowing down is not quitting; it’s preparation. Each cup reminds me to breathe, trust the process, and choose myself again and again. That blend of faith, lived experience, humor, and heart is the source of my resilience—and the heartbeat behind Come Tea Us.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
“Turning Sips into Moments and Moments into Memories”
At our core, we create spaces for people to slow down, connect, and celebrate life—one beautiful cup of tea at a time. Come Tea Us is a Dallas-based mobile tea events company that officially launched this spring, and we’ve been steeping joy, creativity, and community into every gathering ever since. What we do is simple but powerful: we transform ordinary moments—corporate mixers, client appreciation events, birthdays, showers, brunches, and community celebrations—into immersive, tea-themed experiences designed to help people feel present, inspired, and connected. From our monthly booth at the Dallas Farmers Night Market (complete with iced teas and a DIY floral bar) to our more than 20 imaginative event themes, every Come Tea Us experience is crafted to tell a story.
What makes this work exciting is that no two events are ever the same. With the artistic brilliance of our Creative and Marketing Director, Stacey Taylor, each event becomes a visual experience—an English garden one weekend, a whimsical “Down the Rabbit Hole” tea party fundraiser the next. And beyond the creativity, we are deeply community-driven. We host quarterly giveback events, partner with local nonprofits and artists, and even use our Farmers Market booth to raise funds for causes like Kerr County flood relief.
This year, we’re expanding our offerings, growing our team, and saying “yes” to bigger creative collaborations and corporate partnerships. But at the heart of everything is our mission: Sip. Savor. Socialize. We want our guests to feel joy. To feel seen. To feel connected. And whether we’re celebrating your milestone, elevating your workplace culture, or bringing magic to your next event—Come Tea Us is just getting started.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
“The Mindset and Skills That Brewed My Path Forward”
Looking back, three qualities have been absolutely essential in my journey: laser-focused vision, relentless resilience, and a deep understanding of the business behind the dream.
First, laser focus with gazelle-level intensity has been my north star. When I decided to build Come Tea Us—a mobile tea events company that now brings immersive, story-rich experiences to corporate gatherings, community celebrations, and the Dallas Farmers Night Market—I had to lock in on where I wanted the brand to go, not just where it was starting. Focus kept me grounded when things felt chaotic, and it helped me build a company that transforms ordinary moments into meaningful, creative experiences for people to sip, connect, and celebrate.
Second, resilience. Not the cute kind—the “get up again when you don’t even feel like standing” kind. From unexpected career changes to the reality of running a one-woman operational show, resilience was the thread that connected every milestone. Come Tea Us was born in a season where I had to choose myself, trust my vision, and keep pouring into a dream even when the kettle was whistling a little too loudly. That ability to rise, pivot, and keep going is what allows our team to now host pop-ups, corporate events, community fundraisers, and more than 20 themed experiences that bring imagination to life.
Finally, understanding the financial and operational backbone of my business has been crucial. It’s not glamorous, but knowing your numbers, revenue model, margins, and marketing strategy is what keeps a beautiful idea alive. Creativity is the soul of Come Tea Us, but strong business systems make the magic possible. My advice: learn your business model early, write it down, refine it often, and know exactly where you want to be tomorrow—not just someday.
For anyone early in their journey, here’s my simple encouragement:
Never give up on your dream, even on the days it feels wild. Focus like your future depends on it. Build your business foundation with intention. And keep people—connection, community, kindness—at the center of everything.
Because with the right mix of clarity, grit, and heart, you can create something meaningful… maybe even a tea movement that brings a little more joy into the world.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
“Raised to Swim—Literally and Emotionally—Without Floaties”
The most impactful things my parents did for me happened long before I ever stepped into entrepreneurship—they taught me resilience, resourcefulness, and the fine art of figuring things out. In our house, you often earned or worked for luxuries, including a new school wardrobe. I can remember modeling in a storefront window at The Limited in elementary school to earn 50% off my school clothes. When I needed to fund my Student Ambassador trip, I didn’t get an allowance—I played a violin benefit concert to pay for it. And swimming lessons? Let’s just say they taught me early on how to stay afloat in more ways than one.
But the real magic came from my mom’s legendary mantra: “It’s happening to you—so what are you going to do about it?” A phrase both inspiring and mildly inconvenient when all you want to do is vent. She taught me that adversity is non-negotiable, but your response is entirely up to you. And when it came to critics or doubters, her philosophy was simple: “Don’t get mad—get even… by succeeding.” Translation: let your results do the talking while the naysayers stay busy watching.
Those lessons shaped everything about who I am today—from launching Come Tea Us to navigating every twist of business ownership. I learned early to turn challenges into fuel, turn discomfort into growth, and turn sarcasm into strength. And honestly? I wouldn’t trade those lessons—or the 50% off clothing discount—for anything.
