We recently connected with Ebony Foster and have shared our conversation below.
: Hi Ebony , so excited to have you with us today and we are really interested in hearing your thoughts about how folks can develop their empathy? In our experience, most folks want to be empathic towards others, but in a world where we are often only surrounded by people who are very similar to us, it can sometimes be a challenge to develop empathy for others who might not be as similar to us. Any thoughts or advice?
A look in the mirror. As I began to deepen my relationship with Christ, I was able to really see why I needed salvation, I saw how much of a mess I was and with the same eyes I saw how much I was loved by Christ. Facing that truth allowed/allows me to grace everyone I encounter and encourage them to grace themselves as they seek the love of God.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
What’s special about me is the fact I’m Ok with the harsh process of becoming. Becoming who it is I was created to be has caused me to encounter some very strange lows that were extremely necessary. Necessary in the sense of inspiration and encouragement. Nothing I’ve been through will be in vain because I share my journey to be light for those that will walk the same path.
I have an online ministry called, “Transparent on Purpose” and I share my testimonies as well as transparent lessons and biblical revelations that a lot of us want answers to but are afraid to ask and too lost to seek.
Also, I have a conceptual photography promotional series by the name of “The Bold & Beautiful” This series was designed as a result of my healing journey through transparency, courage and truth! A lot of times we find ourselves stuck in life because we hold on to trauma or false truths and it hinders us from becoming who it is God created us to be! The goal is to exemplify strength and resilience through photography. We have to overcome to become. Become to be used. And be used to save God’s people. That’s love.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My biblical knowledge has conditioned my way of thinking to the point my perspective alone allows me the ability to see things in a way others are incapable. Perspective was my skill of survival and my motivation to keep pushing past my current.
A quality I take pride in is the ability to adjust. Adjust in different environments, adjust to circumstances, adjust to losses, roles and the unexpected in general. Its what makes me an amazing partner or team player. I can take the lead and the back seat. I play my role and act accordingly.
Making something out of nothing is a skill. My business, life, perspective and abilities all stem from my ability to make something out of nothing! I’ve never been shocked when God gave me “nothing” to work with because I trust Him to also provide the vision to make something grandiose!
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I would love to collaborate with addiction recovery centers, churches and/ or non profit organizations with a center focus of healing and transformational living
My photography series is intended for overcomers to share their stories in hopes of convincing others that transformation is possible. Understanding that trauma can be shared to save lives. So many people suffer silently and feel so alone and it shows in mental health statistics.
