Meet Ebony Jones

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ebony Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Ebony, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I overcame imposter syndrome by overcoming depression. I stopped listening to the voice that told me that I was average. I stopped listening to the voice that told me I couldn’t do the things that I wanted to do & become the woman that I wanted to be. I overcame it by reflecting on the times that I didn’t believe that I would make it through. I acknowledged the fact that I made it through each & every time. I acknowledged the fact that I had uplifted so many people just by being me. I watched how God continued to open up doors for me with people from all walks of life. I listen to people who spoke life into me when my voice would get low, not silenced. But most importantly I listened to the Creator when she told me that I am really that Woman! The creator told me that I would help change the lives of many people.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a Motivator naturally. Every since I was a kid, I’ve always been motivating people to keep going and to do their best. I’ve always let people know that they can do whatever they wanted to do. People would always come up to me and tell me how my aura is so bright and that I inspire them. Growing up I always been a “let me try it person”. I’ve always been busy and a giver. I have always had a love for people and giving back type of person. Writing poems were a way that I was able to get my feelings out & escape a world that I didn’t fit in. I never wanted to do things just as someone wanted me to do it. I always had to put a twist to it.

I am adopted and I lost my adoptive dad while I was in the 6th or 7th grade. Which both situations were hard & led into me feeling like I didn’t fit in. After my dad’s death, I started internalizing my feelings more & more. My unsaid model was “I don’t have time to hurt/be made or let anyone know how I was feeling. I wanted to feel loved so bad that I started just throwing more love around and seeing where it would land. Needless to say, it landed me in some bad situations. I attempted suicide at an early age and was so unsuccessful, that no one knew about it. No one was aware of it until I started speaking about it until a few years ago. Even though I never attempted again, the thoughts would flood in. I started talking to people and realized really quickly that so many people that I know has faced those same thoughts. In 2020/2021 those thoughts would resurface.

Because of the many people including myself, 4 years ago I decided that I would speak on suicide & help prevent more people from committing suicide. I got trained this year in Suicide Prevention 1st Aide. I just had my 4th Annual Suicide Prevention Event September 10th,2024. Most of it comes out of my very own pocket. I am looking for people to donate for next year’s event.

It’s only a $5 entry & $5 to perform I am working on my 1st ebook to help people overcome depression & stay alive. I’m looking to drop it before Christmas.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. Resilience: Never give up, always keep trying no matter how hard it gets. You’ll find out that you really can do it. You’ll find out that you will get through the tough times.

2. Gratitude: Gratitude will get you further in the right direction than worrying will. Finding the light in a dark situation has allowed me to move forward in life gracefully.

3. Willing to learn & try something new: Always be willing to learn and unlearn. You don’t know everything. And learning makes you better while increasing your value to the world. Trying new things will get you in the room with new people who could help change your life for the good.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I am looking to partner with people who are making a positive impact in the world. Im looking to work with people who can help to provide products for the homeless. I’m looking for people who can get me paid bookings to speak. It’s a challenge knowing that this is where God called me to be but it doesn’t pay the bills. These people would have connections to the Suicide Prevention circle. They would be able to help me to get resources for those suffering with Suicide thoughts & mental distress. I’m looking for someone who could mentor me in the motivational speaking aspect as well as the suicide prevention aspect. They would be able to help .e find funds to host more suicide prevention activities and events. They have love for people.
