We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Edsha Jones. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Edsha below.
Edsha , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
One of the most impactful things I did was INTENTIONALLY step out of my comfort zone & start putting in the work to become the person I wanted to be. I had to take a real hard look at who I was vs who I wanted to become and decided to do the things edifying to that higher version of myself. Making smaller, more digestible shifts in my habits, thoughts & ultimately actions; intentionally forcing myself to do the things I avoided or half did in previous seasons of my life. Microshifts and focusing on getting 1% better each day helped me see myself in a more capable & competent light which in turn bred confidence. I struggled with Imposter Syndrome for a long time but I now understand that when you’re going for greatness, doubting self is human nature. We just need the tools and the will to push past it.
One of my favorite books, the Bible, emphasizes the importance of renewing your mind each day. At one point, I had to almost completely brainwash myself and heal my past traumas through personal development to become the more evolved version of Edsha that I am today. And the journey continues; I’ve yet to reach the pinnacle of my success. With each new level, imposter syndrome tries to creep in and I remind myself of how I overcame it before.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Absolutely! I’ve been a licensed beauty professional for 16 years, specializing in Luxury Extensions, Salon Experiences & Education that breed confidence and empowerment. I’ve been successfully retailing luxury extensions for 12+ years. In the last year, I added digital resources to my site TheLuxuryHairLab.com, including The Ultimate Extensions Vendors List for anyone interested in starting their own luxury extensions business; and My Daily Gratitude Journals, pushing my business further into the digital space.
As of recently, I’ve expanded my personal brand into the world of finance which is the highest-paying industry in the United States. It’s been life-changing exploring the language of money, how to be strategic with income protection, investments and building passive income all while helping others do the same. I have some amazing mentors & business coaches; personally so far through this journey, I’ve been empowered to break generational curses of poverty and build tangible generational wealth in my family. It’s been very fulfilling & impactful work that I plan to continue expanding as I grow and evolve. I’ve obtained some financial licenses on the state level and am actively working on obtaining my federal financial licenses. Once I’m finished, I’ll be a part of a 1% demographic in the United States who holds these prestigious licenses & will also be able to sponsor others into this industry as well. It’s been an exciting and successful journey so far!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities that have fortified the foundation of who I am today have been:
1. Faith in God which also empowers me to believe in myself;
2. A Growth Mindset and;
3. The Will to Persevere.
I jokingly share that I have a Ph.D. In Perseverance. If there’s been any thing I know for a fact that has aided me in my journey, it has been my ability to persevere through obstacles. We all experience hard times but I believe adversity builds character; we can’t always control what happens to us, but we can always control how we respond to it and who we become in the process. It’s truly a muscle that has to be worked but getting through things you thought you’d never make it out of, gives you a sweet sense of reassurance & power. I’ve been through A LOT of tough times and have had some unimaginable experiences but I don’t regret any of them. They’ve built me; they didn’t break me because I chose to persevere and keep giving life a try. Even in the ugliest storms, eventually the rain stops, the clouds clear and the sun shines again.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m always open to meaningful and impactful collaborations but in this season of my life, I’m looking for C.H.A.M.P.S. to collaborate with. CHAMPS is an acronym for people who, like myself, enjoy being High Achievers. CHAMPS are Competitive, Hardworking, Ambitious, Motivated, Positive People-Persons, & Servant Leaders. We believe in our ability to create change & impact in the world & lives around us. I’m also looking to bridge the wealth gap in my community by helping individuals become fluent in the language of money. My team & I call it getting “Financially Lit” because we’re excited to be learning how money works, building wealth and helping others reach their financial goals as well. There’s not a ton of people, especially women, who look like me in this industry and have the state & federal licenses I’m obtaining. I have the ability to address that.
So if you’re reading this and believe you have the qualities of CHAMPS, you’re looking for business/finance coaching or interested in being sponsored into the Finance industry like me, visit my Linktree and schedule a free virtual consultation with me. I’d love to hear your story and see how we can collab and create impact in our lives and the world around us.
