Meet Edward White

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Edward White. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Edward below.

Edward, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
Creativity is a funny thing because it can be difficult to measure and is often associated with fleeting moments of inspiration or productivity. One of the biggest things that has helped keep my creativity alive is to try my best to eliminate comparison with others. It’s simple in theory, but is something that takes continual work to maintain. It’s helpful to remember that everyone is on their own unique journey & you should only strive to be better than where you were yesterday. In addition to this, I try not to force inspiration or have strict expectations with my creativity, but rather to follow music/artists that inspire me. I just try to follow my heart and immerse myself in what I love without thinking too deeply about why. This lets my own creativity evolve continually and to drive/inspire me in a natural and sustainable way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Look no further than Edward White’s eclectic background as a guitarist & bandleader that has allowed this rising producer to stand out amongst his peers.

His foray into electronic music since his first release in 2021 has seen a tremendous amount of notable releases on taste-making labels such as Shall Not Fade, Fantastic Voyage, & Steppers Club. In 2022 he had the honor of remixing Justin Martin for the 10th anniversary reissue of his debut LP ‘Ghettos & Gardens’ on What To Do Records.

2023 sees his biggest release yet landing on Dirtybird’s prolific white label series. The EP entitled ‘Endlessly’ is a multi-faceted, diverse exploration into the heart and soul of White’s musical influences as he ties together these genre-bending tracks effortlessly with intricate 2-step influenced drums running rapidly underneath this record.

Be on the lookout for upcoming shows this year as White begins to incorporate his guitar playing into live DJ sets for a performance that is truly special and unlike any other. This emerging artist is surely one you will want to keep an eye on as he progresses further on his musical journey.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say consistency, positivity, and curiosity are three key traits that have stood out to me on my journey. Being consistent & pushing forward is huge and goes hand in hand with staying positive because consistency feels good when you’re making regular progress no matter how small. Staying curious has been very helpful for finding inspiration and exploring new ideas and genres. I always try to remind myself to keep an open mind. My advice for someone early on in their journey would be to follow their heart and to try to create the music they want to hear without comparing their experience to others. Stay true to your taste and keep exploring anything that excites you.

Are you looking for folks to partner or collaborate with? If so, describe the sorts of folks you are looking to collaborate with and how they can connect with you if they are reading this and want to collaborate.
Yes, I always love collaborating with friends & new people-you can learn so much from others and expand the way that you view the creative process. I try and work with my friends that have overlapping tastes or really anyone who’s music inspires me in any way. I love working with people that bring positive & fun vibes to the studio and try to do the same myself.
