We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Edwin Montero. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Edwin below.
Hi Edwin, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from a God given fire that continuously burns from deep within. Combined with excellent role models throughout my life from parents, family, colleagues, and teachers. I always give my absolute best effort, I strive to be the hardest worker in the room no matter the environment. I learned from a young age that I could endure the pain of discipline, soreness, and hunger for longer than most people. Training, a lot of repetition, and getting good results from my efforts cemented my work ethic.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I was born in Panama City Panama, and I spent about all of my teen age years in Germany. I went to the university where I majored in Cultural Anthropology, and I love martial arts. I am currently focused on my acting career. I have also been a host and reporter for an on demand media platform/TV Station named Channel Fight.
What I feel is most exciting about what I do is being around the best. When I’m reporting at PPV world championship boxing matches I get a chance to interview personalities that everyone sees on tv. from Stephen A. Smith, Dick Gregory, Coach Freddie Roach, Michael Buffer and many more.
The same when I’m working on acting gigs, I have been blessed to be in the same set with the best and greatest in the industry like Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford, Dwayne Johnson, Tommy Lee Jones, Woody Harrelson, Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, Jennifer Aniston, Billy Bob Thornton, and so many more. Recently, I found myself on the set of HBO’s “Peace Maker” season 2 exchanging words with pro wrestler and actor, John Cena. That’s exciting and inspirational for me. Experience is the best teacher. I’m always learning on set whether it’s from wardrobe, lighting, special effects, stunts, or hair and make-up. It’s all part of film making and there’s always something new to learn.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The first is knowing that I am a blessed person and God has protected me all my life and taken me out of many bad situations.
The second is that I have always listened to my elders. They have the experience. Growing up, many of my friends were 20 or 30 years older than me. Even now in the gym I find myself talking mostly with elders, I find them to be less competitive than my peers and much more comfortable in their own skin.
The quality of your teachers matter greatly! Always learn from the best world class teachers you can find. Loyalty can bring you down if you are loyal to mediocracy. Don’t think that because you started with one teacher you have to stay with that teacher forever. Always surround yourself with the absolute best.
It’s all mental, therefore, improve your mind. I suggest a lot of praying. Read plenty of quotes on your favorite topics. Lastly, keep your body strong through exercise..
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
I’m big on the Bible, Torah, Quran, sayings of the Buhdda., I Ching,
But outside of these spiritual books I would say Jim Rohn has excellent books that impacted my thoughts on life and finance. A great way to end this would be with some Jim Rhon quotes. You can YouTube his full audiobooks.
“Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better.” Jim Rohn
“Work harder on yourself than you do on your job. Work hard on your job and you can make a living, work had on yourself and you can make a fortune.” Jim Rohn
“The more you appreciate what you have, the more you will have to appreciate.” Jim Rohn
