We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Eileen Grubba a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Eileen, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Yes! My confidence and self esteem were hard earned. Doing the consistent work necessary to earn all we receive in this life builds grit and confidence, and I believe it’s the only thing that does. Putting in 100% effort in all you do, showing up for yourself consistently, even when no one else does, earning everything on your own, taking risks, and knowing that every effort you make builds courage and self esteem. I gained my confidence by always showing up for myself and others, and doing my very best, no matter what I was up against. If I failed, I got up and tried again, and again, and again. If we keep trying, eventually we will succeed in some small way and each success is another step toward our goals. It’s those thousands of little steps that build our confidence in ourselves. When we have done the work, no one can take that belief in ourselves away from us. Nothing more empowering than knowing: I EARNED IT.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about your recent work before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
What I feel is most exciting is the progress we are seeing for disability inclusion in entertainment. We have fought so hard, for decades, and faced immense resistance, but we persisted, and now we are seeing the tides turn. More and more movies, TV series, advertising and creative content is now including people with disabilities. We still have a long way to go in terms of including and accepting women with visible disabilities, but we have made great progress overall.
It’s been very exciting to be a part of the writing team for LEGO FRIENDS 2023 which has been creating inclusive stories and characters with disabilities that are being well received by children worldwide. (Find the series episodes on YouTube)
My dream was always to create a welcoming world for kids with challenges in hopes that no more children will be bullied, rejected, or kept out of social activities because they had medical challenges sooner in life than others. I’ve always wanted to “flip the script” so society will realize these kids are MORE, not less. They are stronger, not weaker. People with disabilities have immense courage, resilience, strength, and are usually master problem solvers. We need them out there, guiding us through challenges, sharing their unique perspectives, and helping us heal this world. The tidal wave is hitting and I’m excited to see that we are creating a world where children will feel welcome, equal, and given the same opportunities as everyone else, regardless of their differences. Soon those children will become the adults who make our world a better place for all.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The most impactful qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey are:
1. Resilience! No matter what challenges hit, get up and KEEP GOING!
2. Belief in myself, no matter how much rejection or resistance came my way.
3. Willingness to take risks and do the hard work for many years, even when nothing was working.
My advice would be to DO THE WORK! Make sure you are highly skilled at what you dream to do, and then go out there and do it, over and over, year after year, against all odds, every chance you get. Do whatever it takes to be THE BEST and keep going, no matter what. If you work harder than everyone else, and you persist through all the challenges life will throw your way, you will eventually find a path to your dreams. Hard work pays off, not quickly, but inevitably, if you keep going.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes! At this time we are looking to collaborate with courageous, accomplished directors with major feature credits, who are able to expertly execute a large budget, female driven period drama, that includes multiple children and is set in Europe. It is based on a very important piece of history with worldwide audience appeal. Hunt Lowry, producer of “A Time To Kill”, “Last Of The Mohicans”, “Revenge” and 46 other major features has signed on to produce.
In addition, we are always looking to collaborate with investors who are interested in human impact stories, and making a difference in our world. We have multiple projects in the works. Qualified, interested parties can reach us via Roserock Films on the WB lot, or through our talent representatives listed on IMDB Pro. Serious inquiries only, please.
