We were lucky to catch up with Eileen Isagholian recently and have shared our conversation below.
Eileen, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
From life. From my lived experience. From hurdles. From rejection. From loss. From pain.
I had to learn real quick that I can only depend on me. All the things to be done in order to make it, was to be done by myself. The only person who had my back unconditionally was my brother. It was us against the world. But after he passed away, it was me against the world. Grief & loss are the 2 greatest revealers in life. They reveal everybody’s authenticity. So from that day forward, I had no choice but to grow a shell of resilience. We all have 2 choices when dealing with life: allowing life to make you or break you. I chose not to break. Hence my shield of resilience.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As of the past few years, I’m an Insurance Agent specializing in commercial transportation insurance (semis, big rigs, box trucks, etc…). The best part of my career is connecting with people from all over the country. My background is in sociology & psychology, so it’s second nature to dive into people’s psyches. There’s a lot of learning & maneuvering around people’s traumas & triggers when dealing with their insurance needs. I break that typical dishonest insurance agent stereotype. My purpose in life is to help people. That form of help has changed over the years, & with each change I have managed to bring my purpose into the present. That is the business & career part of me which is a small part of my whole. As I me too ed, my purpose is to help people. Throughout the years the form of help has changed. From fundraisers to clothing & toy drives, there is no act of kindness that’s too small. Navigating thru the ebb & flow of life, my next chapter in giving is the gift of healing. We are in talks to launch a podcast catering to what I call “the forgotten generation.” The late 30’s to early 50’s either 1st gen Americans or 1st gen kids of immigrants. We all relate to each other & grew up in a similar/same environment. Bouncing between 2 starkly different worlds. Make sure to follow me for updates!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
It all starts with self.
1. Transparency
2. Integrity
3. Inner work/Accountability
We need to be transparent with ourselves. We need to be able to sit with ourselves.
We need to apply integrity to ourselves. Hold ourselves accountable before holding anyone else accountable. When pointing a finger, there’s 3 pointing back.
We must work on our inner self. We must garnish healing which will propel one to unimaginable places that are prohibited otherwise.
Best way to grasp these 3 pillars is by surrounding oneself with authentic, genuine, nontoxic people who have a spine & practice what they preach.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
My biggest area of growth has been my response mechanism, my reactivity & trigger control. You can say I leveled-up. I try to not allow others projections trigger me. I have learned not every trigger warrants a reaction. I allow the trigger to reveal the trauma it roots from. I process & file away. This takes a lot of discernment, & determining where the line in the sand is.
