Hi Elaine , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I get my resilience from my upbringing in Mexico and the challenges I’ve faced throughout my life. Growing up with divorced parents and very few luxuries, I learned the value of hard work and developed a strong work ethic early on. These experiences forced me to grow up quickly and handle responsibilities beyond my years. Later, going through my own divorce added to my resilience. These, amongst other life’s challenges have taught me to stay strong and adaptable no matter what comes my way.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a paramedical tattoo artist specializing in 3D areola and nipple tattoos, as well as scar camouflage tattoos. My primary focus is on providing 3D areola and nipple tattoos, which are particularly beneficial for breast cancer patients who have undergone mastectomy surgery, either due to cancer or as a preventative measure because they tested positive for the BRCA gene. These surgeries usually result in the loss of the areolas and nipples, and my tattoos provide a natural-looking and realistic appearance.

This service is incredibly special because it helps patients regain a sense of normalcy and confidence after their breast reconstruction. By restoring the appearance of their areolas and nipples, my work plays a crucial role in their emotional and psychological healing process. I find immense fulfillment in knowing that I can contribute to my clients’ journey towards feeling whole and confident again.

Additionally, I specialize in scar camouflage tattoos, which are ideal for individuals who have scars from accidents, medical surgeries, or cosmetic procedures and wish to improve their appearance. Scars can often be lighter or darker than the surrounding skin, and what I do is tattoo over them with flesh-toned inks to help these scars blend in with the rest of the skin. This process, hence called scar camouflage tattooing, enhances the overall aesthetic and helps individuals feel more comfortable and confident in their skin.

The most exciting part about my job is being able to provide a service that helps women and individuals feel good about themselves again. Especially when working with mastectomy patients, it is incredibly rewarding, and I feel very honored to be able to provide this service.

My brand, Evolve Med Ink, reflects my belief in the constant evolution we all experience. ‘Evolve’ signifies the journey of change and growth that my clients undergo. ‘Med’ stands for medical, highlighting my focus on paramedical tattoos, and ‘Ink’ represents the artistry involved in tattooing. Through Evolve Med Ink, I aim to be a part of my clients’ transformation, helping them heal and feel whole again.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back I would say the three qualities that have been the most impactful in my journey are resilience, empathy and adaptability. Growing up with limited resources and overcoming personal challenges taught me perseverance. Understanding my clients’ emotional and physical needs helps me provide meaningful and impactful services. Transitioning from a long career in the mortgage industry to this completely career required embracing change and continuous learning.
what I would advice those who are early in their journey is to stay consistent, believe in yourself and push through challenges. Don’t give up when faced with obstacles; instead, see them as opportunities to prove to yourself you that you have what it takes. Every challenge conquered reinforces your capability and strengthens your resolve. With determination and self-belief, and patience you can overcome any obstacle that comes your way.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

My best friend Priscilla has played a pivotal role in my journey as a new business owner, helping me overcome challenges and develop essential skills for success. With her own successful business experience, she has been a mentor, offering invaluable advice and guidance tailored to my path.

In addition to Priscilla’s support, the relationships I’ve built with fellow artists in this field have been equally crucial. Within our community, we share tips and support one another through challenges, enriching our skills and providing the encouragement needed to navigate this unique career path.
