Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eleanor Hammond. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Eleanor with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My father, who is a music manager in LA and was previously at Capitol Records, always gave me honest and thorough advice when hearing my songwriting. It wasn’t always easy to hear, but it certainly made me better at it.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I have been singing, playing guitar and piano, and songwriting since she was 11. I have been in at least two theatrical productions per year from ages 14-22. I often use my theatrical background to incorporate storytelling into her lyrics.
My passion for composition became so strong that in 2019 I was inspired to write and produce a full-length feminist musical called Walls, the story of artist and founder of the Whitney Museum, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney. I then produced my second musical Newsflash! in 2021 with co-writer Em Beihold. I am now releasing a string of singles.
I have most often been compared to powerful women like Kate Bush, Stevie Nicks, Miley Cyrus, Joni Mitchell, and Alanis Morissette. My dynamic and confident singing, demanding stage presence, and prophetic yet relatable lyrics make me a unique and trailblazing artist.
My songs vary in genre, keeping the listener on their toes, yet still feel cohesive and of the same creator, one that has been honing my sound for years, inspired by my influences and growing worldview.
I am currently performing shows in LA and working on my debut album to be released in this summer.
** My next single “Don’t Waste It on a Mood” comes out THIS FRIDAY 6/21!! **
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Talent, persistence, and luck. Talent: you HAVE to have the skills, or learn them to do music. Persistence: it’s a marathon, not a race. This is a lifelong career. Luck: I think it’s pretty self explanatory, but there is luck in success in show business.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am looking to collaborate with other bandmates who enjoy my music and are interested in recording together and performing regularly. A dream of mine would be being in a band like The Last Dinner Party, although it doesn’t have to be all women necessarily!
