Meet Elena Rivera

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elena Rivera. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Elena, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I definitely learned resilience from my mom. She has been such a huge role model to me. Life has never been easy and she has always taught me to get back up and try again no matter the circumstances. Being able to push past the mental battle of being disappointed or discouraged is the hardest part.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a an all around photographer that specializes in weddings and couples photography! Witnessing people’s love just brings out a different feeling for me! I love capturing it and creating it into my own story through images!

My biggest goal as a professional would be to make this my full time career in the near future and travel all over to capture people’s love! I have recently expanded my business to Utah and Wyoming but my main state is Colorado!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Being open minded about growth. I think we are all our hardest critics, so we have a certain vision that we want to meet right away, but that is so unrealistic. We all start from the beginning and growing into your business and art is such a beautiful thing, especially when you get to look back on your growth.

2. Doing it ALONE. This one was really hard for me. I always thought that I needed someone who knew more than me or who was a professional to teach me the basics. But in reality you can do it alone and you can be successful doing it alone.

3. Believing in your art. This goes back to being our biggest critics. If you chat believe in what you’re doing then no one else will either. You have to be your biggest hype man and believe that your work is just as good as the next person’s!

My advice is to never give up. Keep going, even when it’s hard, even when you don’t have any inquiries, even when you’re not making money. Keep going, eventually you will get to the place you want to be.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

YES! I am always looking to build a community! I want to work with other photographers on collaborating and wedding planners, and venues! Honestly I would love to work with anyone so that we can help each other grow!
