Meet Elena Romanova

We recently connected with Elena Romanova and have shared our conversation below.

Elena, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I have a vivid memory of being 20 and walking down the runway as a model, where I noticed a tattoo on a girl ahead of me at a fashion show. The words “My family is my fortress” etched on her back struck a chord within me, hinting at the profound truth those words would hold in my own life one day. Today, my husband and two beautiful daughters are the very core of my being, offering unwavering love and support. They embody the essence of happiness and the significance of having loved ones by your side. Acting as my backbone and a source of strength, they provide me with the resilience necessary to overcome life’s challenges.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a singer with a vintage look and musical style that combines French chic, English restraint, and Russian depth of soul. My genre of music is Adult Contemporary and Eclectic Soul.

I was born in Moscow, Russia on March 8th – International Women’s Day.
I graduated from GITIS (State Institute of Theatrical Arts) with a Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theatre Acting, under the tutelage of Stas Namin in 2017.

The tenderness, sensuality, and powerful emotional depth of my voice made me a finalist on “The Voice” Russia in 2015.
Subsequently, I became an artist at the Gradsky Hall Musical Theater, where, under the guidance of Alexander Gradsky, I developed my skills in music and theatrical art for seven years until the untimely passing of my mentor.

From the years 2021 to 2023, I released several successful singles in Russian and English, strongly supported by the playlist editors Spotify, Apple Music, Yandex Music, and VK.

Another achievement was the successful music video premiere for the song “While I’m Breathing”, which was directed by Alexander Barshak.

The single “Times Will Be Better” and its Russian-language version “Forever” (composer and music producer John Seda, Rising Sun Music studio in Tampa, Florida) have received recognition and love from listeners both in Russia and the USA.

In 2024, I released a new song “Seasons of Change”, which was also written and produced by John Seda and has garnered critical acclaim.

I have worked on many musical projects in Russia, Europe, and America:

– an English-language album recorded at Cosmos Studios in Sweden

– a joint single and music video with Dr. Alban

– a performance at the final “British Polo Day” tournament in Russia

– a performance with an original song written especially for the Russian-American Cultural Day at the Russian Embassy in Washington accompanied by the Dave Brubeck Orchestra

– a solo concert at the legendary “Bag O’Nails” jazz club in London

– a collaboration with the Viennese Ball Company and Semen Milstein’s “Dance Land” Orchestra

– a performance of Elena’s original song for the “Open Studio Show” project in Montreux

– the central role in the premiere of the musical play “Reflection” at the Gradsky Hall Theater.

Today, I am developing my musical career in the United States, working on creating new songs, concerts and planning to record a concept EP.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Self-confidence is a key element of success. Do not be afraid to showcase your abilities and talents. It is often said that talented people have doubts, while the untalented are confident. If you know that you possess a certain talent and can demonstrate it with dignity, do not hesitate, move forward. If you have a special gift, do not hide it – it is wrong.

It is also important to constantly develop your skills. Once you have defined your goal and dream, it is necessary to continuously improve in your chosen field. Talent is important, but it is also important to enjoy professional growth. Education and development are necessary throughout life.

And finally, it is important to pursue your goal with ease. Do not think that success only comes through hardships. Enjoy the process. Only with joy, a smile, and love for your work can you achieve great results.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
One day, sooner or later, we will inevitably cross paths with someone who will forever alter the course of our lives, etching a lasting impression in the very depths of our hearts.

I have been fortunate to encounter such individuals, one of whom profoundly shaped my creative journey.
My teacher, mentor on “The Voice” project, and dear friend – Alexander Gradsky – is a true icon! Yet, even this title fails to capture the essence of his significance in shaping the musical landscape of the Soviet Union and Russia. He was a real virtuoso performer, composer, and musician of his era.

I not only had the privilege of collaborating with him but also forming a close bond, becoming part of his inner circle. His wisdom was invaluable. I blossomed as an artist at his “Gradsky Hall” Musical Theater, where, guided by his expertise, I refined my musical and theatrical skills over seven years, until his untimely departure.

A unique and special aura always enveloped him. In his presence, you became enveloped in this atmosphere. He effortlessly uplifted and celebrated me, offering a space for my wings to soar with paternal pride and boundless love. Will there ever be another individual like him in my life? I dare not imagine so.
