Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eli Medina . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Eli, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
It’s not easy being optimistic but also , frowning causes wrinkles and who wants that ! I’ve had to learn the hard way I remember being down and depressed when I was much younger. I had thoughts of never being good enough, began to become jealous of other people around me become successful while I felt stagnant. I had to really take a look inward and kinda give myself some tough love and was all ” hey kid you can’t be like this you’ve got to freaking buck up and focus on what you can change.” But I’ve found through things like fitness , dance and crafting I’m able to calm my mind and really just be thankful for what I have achieved.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I have been a makeup artist now for 10years which is crazy to say out loud, but I learn something new every single day. That’s something I love about being am artist for a living! I get to stretch my creative muscles, make people look but also feel amazing and I get paid for it ! Now my job is a fun job yes but it’s still a job I deal with challenges everyday. From clients no- showing on me , to being out of a certain product and having to think quickly or please a very particular picky client but I wouldn’t change anything about it . I have gotten to be part of people’s most important moments in their lives and reminding them how beautiful they are .
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
When I was finishing high school I joined a circus/ variety show where I became an ariel artist. I was constantly surrounded by all kinds of different people who had different experiences and different types of knowledge. I was able to be a sponge and picked up little nuggets of knowledge around me . If I can teach you anything it’s that , listen and learn from the people who are experts in their field. Be willing to take criticism from others because it’s all to help you grow .
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is anyone who understands the end goal for us is to make sure that looking gorgeous so trust in me as your artist when I suggest a new product/ color. We love a client who pre-books instead of texting last minute hoping for a time . If I give you everything you needed and more show me with that tip girl !!! I have found most clients who are new to getting this service sometimes don’t understand that they not only are paying for the artists time but also the years of knowledge and practice it took them to get to this level or take into account most artist are using high grade products from a 75$ foundation to 64$ bronzer with 129$ eyeshadow pallet. All of these things come out of the artist own pocket so if you love your service (anything in the service industry) tip big show that appreciation.
