Meet Elijah Dickson

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Elijah Dickson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Elijah below.

Elijah, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I get my resilience from experience through many trials and tribulations over the years. . Overall getting to where I’m at today has been a real rollercoaster with many highs and lows and through it all I realize that I always make it out no matter how hard the situation may be. So knowing that every situation I can get through if I just take time to plan it out and don’t act with emotions and act with intelligence it shows me that I can get through anything. This has made me not regret past situations I have been through due to it getting me to today so any new challenge that I may face is just something that it is in my journey and something that I will overcome!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Hey so I’m Elijah Dickson, a 20 year old actor, photographer, and creative. I have been actively doing the photography and creative media side for about 2 years. I started off doing it in school with a couple of friends after I bought my first camera on offerup and overtime I just started to love it more and more even though I was doing it free. When I started to get booked and paid for it, it changed EVERYTHING! I started doing more portrait shoots and really becoming a better business minded person day by day due to constant challenges and changes with running it as a business. Now with acting it has been an inconsistent about 7-8 years but overall it has been amazing for every bit of it that I have done. I love the acting world and the people that come with it. There most people are very open and creative and it helps me loosen up and be more of myself when I see people around me doing the same. The things I like about both worlds is that it lets me be authentically myself. I do not every question myself as I’m working in these lanes because I love it and understand that there will be highs and lows! For the future I definitely plan to continue to working in the TV/film lane for acting as I honestly love the whole vibe of it and what is I would prefer to do the most! As with photography and that lane of the creative space I would love to get into more of the creative direction side of my shoots where I go and do photography that is out the box! Look forward to more of that extremely soon and in the next few months on my journey!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I believe 3 of the most important qualities that I have that have helped me become a better person has been knowing that I need to stay consistent, be an active learner, and be grateful and appreciative wherever I’m at on the journey! With these 3 Skills I truly believe I can do anything. I truly believe anyone else should focus on these 3 things and the world is theirs. You can make your dreams happen if you practice these and strive to achieve for these daily. To achieve consistency you’re going to need discipline to be able to do tasks whether you want to do them or not just due to you knowing the outcome of what can happen if you keep making progress consistently. To improve your learning truly just make sure you really pay attention to what people are saying and don’t just let things go from one ear to the other. This includes asking questions when you are unsure and just so you can get as educated as you can get and make sure you educating yourself on the right things. Being grateful about everything is just appreciating the journey and understanding that they’re will be highs and lows and not everything is going to be clear and easy but appreciating that you are making progress and actively working towards becoming your ideal self.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I’m overwhelmed it is usually due to me just having too many things that I want to do and either not exactly knowing how I need to do something directly or just having so many task that I just feel like I have too many things to do. First things first I take a step back and journal to see just exactly are all my tasks that I need to get done or write about why I feel overwhelmed. Once I know everything that contributes to me being overwhelmed I break down and see what task or what is the next step that I can take towards killing my overwhelm. If you know exactly what you need to do and even break things down into small achievable steps it makes getting tasks done a lot easier and eventually you will find out a set plan on fixing your overwhelm.
