Hi Elijah , so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
From a young age, skateboarding taught me to confront risks head-on. While I may not skateboard as frequently now, the lessons it imparted remain indelible. Skateboarding is a blend of joy and inherent risks; it’s about mastering the art of not falling, even though I had my fair share of tumbles and broken bones.

Every trick, be it on a handrail or down a flight of stairs, required commitment. Over time, this constant push made me accustomed to stepping out of my comfort zone. With every fall, I not only learned about the physical limits but also mentally conditioned myself to face fear and overcome it. The resilience I built from each setback reinforced my risk-taking ability.

Before any daring move on my skateboard, I would visualize the outcome, weigh potential results, and then make a calculated decision. Not all risks in skateboarding were about recklessness; many were about assessing the situation and making a decisive action. This ability to evaluate, prepare mentally, and then commit to the action became pivotal in other areas of my life.

So, if I chose to attempt a trick and fell, it still meant I had the courage to take that risk. Hesitation wasn’t an option. This philosophy has seamlessly translated to my approach in life. Sometimes, you must take that leap, embrace the risk, to truly discover your potential and shape your destiny.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Born amidst the bustling streets and sunlit boulevards of Los Angeles, and later finding a second home in the cultural melting pot of the Bay Area, I, Elijah Perry, have been on a journey of constant evolution. Now, at the age of 27, I stand at the crossroads of creativity, resilience, and humanity.

The seeds of my passion for photography were sown during my impressionable middle school years. An invitation to the yearbook club was more than just a call to an extracurricular activity; it marked my initiation into the world of visual storytelling. My peers often remarked on my innate ability to capture moments — every snapshot seemed to resonate with emotion, even without fine-tuning shutter speeds or focus. Photography became my first language, a medium where I effortlessly expressed my perspective.

Parallel to my growing fascination with the camera was my immersion into the world of skateboarding. The streets transformed into both my canvas and stage, guiding me through sharp turns and daring jumps. It was during these adrenaline-pumping sessions that I discovered another facet of my creativity: filmmaking. Documenting my friends’ intricate maneuvers, I swiftly grasped the nuances of film, from maintaining focus on a moving subject to the patience required for capturing that perfect shot, despite countless retakes.

With the dawn of the digital age, I ventured into the expansive universe of TikTok, where my creativity found a substantial audience. My handle, @officialelijahboi, quickly amassed a follower count now standing at 53k. Collaborations with renowned creators such as Deshae Frost, King Vader, and Meagan Good have been both insightful and a source of immense pride. My unique niche lies in reimagining the whimsical episodes of SpongeBob, translating them into a real-world context. The warmth and admiration from my audience have been genuinely overwhelming.

My current magnum opus in the making is the TV show, “The Unknowing Jedi.” Drawing inspiration from iconic tales like The Matrix, the lore of Star Wars, and the aesthetics of Cyberpunk, this show promises to be a captivating journey into futuristic adventures and dilemmas. As the script nears completion, I eagerly anticipate the transition to production next year. Away from the limelight and the realm of entertainment, I find profound purpose in the healthcare sector. Serving at the esteemed Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, every day is a testament to the human spirit and its resilience. As part of a trauma center, I’ve been a witness to the full spectrum of human emotions, from moments of despair to those filled with hope. In these instances, my role extends beyond professional duties; it’s about imparting warmth, comfort, and a touch of humanity.

Each chapter of my life has unfurled as a lesson, a story, and an adventure. From the lens of a camera to the corridors of a hospital, my journey revolves around pushing boundaries, nurturing creativity, and touching lives. And yet, with all these tales and experiences under my belt, the story is far from over. The next chapter awaits, and I, Elijah Perry, stand ready to pen it.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Never let fear hinder you from seizing an opportunity; it could lead you to unimaginable heights. I’ve had moments where I bypassed chances that could have propelled me further, but I’m a firm believer in life’s cyclic nature — opportunities will circle back if they’re meant for you.

Pursuing classes in your desired art form is essential, not just to hone your skills but to build invaluable networks. Yes, securing a degree in film or any other discipline can be a testament to your dedication and expertise. However, the connections you cultivate during and outside of your academic journey often prove to be the real game-changers. Equip yourself with as many skills as possible; they’re the tools that will pave your path in the long run.
