The generosity we talk about at Ember Coffee Co. comes from a deep belief in the value and purpose of every individual. It is the core of our mission to “brew good and do good” in the world. We are dedicated to ethically sourcing our coffee beans and empowering coffee growers, with a special focus on women-owned farms. Additionally, we share a portion of our profits with nonprofits that fight sex trafficking in India and Ukraine. Our goal is to use coffee as a powerful force for positive change on a global scale. There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
On our journey with Ember Coffee Co., we’ve discovered three essential factors that have had a tremendous impact on our success:
Getting a Business Coach: Initially, we didn’t have a business coach, and we regretted it. However, we were fortunate to connect with an amazing coach through Sherburne County, and they’ve been instrumental in helping us navigate challenging situations over the last year. Having a coach has been a game-changer, providing valuable guidance and expertise that has shaped our decisions and strategies. We strongly believe that everyone should consider having a coach to elevate their business and personal growth.
Embracing a Mission Beyond Profits: Our journey goes beyond just making profits. We care deeply about making a positive change in the world. Having a clear mission and purpose has not only driven our company’s growth but has also resonated with our customers. People are drawn to brands that stand for something meaningful, and it has given us a unique identity in a competitive market.
Valuing and Supporting Our Staff: Our team is the backbone of our operation, and we genuinely value their contributions. Yes, currently, one of the challenges we are facing at Ember Coffee Co. is learning the business side of the coffee roasting business. As passionate coffee enthusiasts, our expertise lies in creating exceptional coffee blends and making a positive impact. However, to ensure the sustainability and growth of our company, we recognize the importance of mastering the business aspects as well.
Specifically, we are focusing on becoming proficient in tools like QuickBooks to manage our finances efficiently. Understanding profit and loss statements (P&Ls) is crucial for making informed decisions and setting strategic goals. While it’s a new and sometimes complex territory for us, we are dedicated to learning and improving in these areas.
As we navigate this learning curve, we remain committed to our mission and values. Our focus remains on providing the best possible coffee experience while making a positive change in the world. We believe that with determination, continuous learning, and the support of our amazing team, we will overcome this challenge and continue to grow as a successful and socially responsible coffee roasting company
