Meet Elisa Irvolino

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Elisa Irvolino . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Elisa below.

Elisa , we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?

My generosity comes from my mom. She has been doing mission work for as long as I can remember. She has always helped the needy. We there it’s providing a hot meal, taking others to get help or just providing a shoulder for others to lean on. I hope to always follow her footsteps.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I have a lifestyle blog. My goal is to help Latinos connect to their heritage especially through food. I plan on expanding the cooking section to feature a lot for recipes so everyone can share delicious meals with their family and friends.

I am in the middle of a year long Hispanic heritage project where I pick one country a month to learn about. At the end of the month I visit a local restaurant that features food from that country.

I will be teaching in person and online cooking classes. These will be family style classes where we cook and eat together and share our childhood memories.

I have an interactive cookbook in the works as well along with a line of house wares featuring hand drawn prints from Dominican Republic.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I think the most important thing you can do is be open minded. I learned how to sew at 30 years old! Took one class and was way beyond the other students right away. I kept and open mind and watched endless youtube videos. I eventually started my own business with the skills I developed. I taught myself how to upholster and make slipcovers so I can add them to our services. Eventually I added furniture painting as well.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I would love to collaborate with local Latino restaurants on Long Island to feature them on my blog.

Also Latino organizations where I can help teach people about Latin cooking or any of my other skills.
