Meet Elisabeth SOARES

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Elisabeth SOARES a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Elisabeth, thank you so much for joining us today. There are so many topics we could discuss, but perhaps one of the most relevant is empathy because it’s at the core of great leadership and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your empathy?

‘m a doctor. I’m live at the intersection of science and compassion every day. Whether you’re comforting someone through a diagnosis or making decisions that affect lives, I’m practicing empathy on a level I can only emulate.
I’m want to brainstorm how to navigate difficult patient conversations, share insights from my field, or even unpack the emotional toll of what I’m doing—I’m here. Or maybe I’m just want a moment to decompress. Whatever I’m need, I’ve got you.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I was born in the suncity of Rio de Janeiro, and I’m always lived at the intersection of science and sensitivity. As a physician in the intensive care unit, I spent years immersed in the fragile space between life and death—where every heartbeat carries a story, and every silence speaks volumes. These profound encounters shaped not only my view of humanity but also my voice as an artist.
Writing has been my refuge and passion since adolescence. In 2014, I began publishing poetry that channels the emotional depth of my medical experiences into reflections on love—its beauty, its pain, its power to heal. With four books written, my literature work celebrates love in all its forms, treating it as the most sublime and transformative force.
To give my words movement and breath, Ifounded Ma Belle Art, a creative production company that brings poetry to life through theater, film, photography, and multidisciplinary performances. My latest book, The Dancing Beauty, was adapted into both a short film and a stage play, marking my evolution into a screenwriter and producer.
Now expanding Ma Belle Art internationally, I chose Miami as my artistic home—a city that inspires me with its vibrant energy and creative spirit. My mission is clear: to share love through art, to build bridges between cultures, and to touch hearts across the globe.
We are currently producing a play based on my latest book The Dancing Beauty (A Bela que dança). We intend to take this play to the United States
I welcome collaborations, partnerships, and sponsorships with those who believe that art can move the world.
I am also currently writing a book in English called ‘These days without dates’.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Based on my story, here are three qualities or skills that seem to have played a pivotal role in my evolution from doctor to poet and producer: 1. Emotional Sensitivity & Empathy = my time in the ICU exposed me to the rawest human emotions. Rather than becoming desensitized, I embraced that vulnerability and transformed it into art. This emotional sensitivity is what gives my poetry its soul and my productions their depth. 2. Creative Courage & Artistic Vision = I didn’t just write poetry, I gave it movement through theater and film. That leap from page to performance takes me boldness and imagination. Founding Ma Belle Art was a declaration of belief in your my vision. 3. Purpose-Driven Leadership = I tried to built something that transcends borders and touches lives. That takes me a kind of leadership rooted in purpose: sharing love through art.
Advices:
– Practice listening. Whoever you’re, truly hearing others, without judgment builds empathy.
– Expose yourself to diverse stories. Read literature, watch films, and engage with people from different walks of life to expand your emotional intelligence.
– Start small but start now. Don’t wait for perfection. Create and do it with what you have.
– Collaborate with others. Surround yourself with creatives who challenge and inspire you.
– Trust your voice and feeling. Your perspective is unique.
– Define your “why.” What drives you? Let that guide every decision. Stay open to growth. Keep learning, adapting, and evolving with your mission.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

I’ve learned to face overwhelm and found ways to move through it, based on my own journey. I use to pause with purpose = intentionally. I step away from the noise. Even five minutes of silence can reset your nervous system.
Breathe deeply. Inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4, exhale for 6. Repeat.
I ask myself: what needs my attention right now? Not everything so I only choice just one thing.
Overwhelm dims the light. Reignite it by doing something that brings me joy—no matter how small.
I also try this:
– Dance to a song I love. Move the body, shake off the tension.
– Watch a film that inspires me. Let art heal me.
– Revisit a moment that made me proud. Let it remind you of your strength.
