Meet Élishia Sharie

We recently connected with Élishia Sharie and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Élishia Sharie, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
In my youth, I struggled with confidence and self-esteem. I faced frequent teasing and experienced a deep sense of insecurity. Developing my confidence was a gradual process that primarily unfolded in my adulthood. It was during this time that I made a conscious decision to embrace and celebrate who I am fully.

I learned to view my uniqueness not as a source of vulnerability but as a strength. Embracing my identity as a creative and self-proclaimed nerd allowed me to appreciate the qualities that make me authentically me. I began to understand that these traits were not weaknesses but aspects that contributed to my individuality.

Through my music, I’ve found a platform to share my journey of self-acceptance. Moreover, it has become a means through which I aim to encourage and inspire others to embrace and celebrate their own unique qualities. I’ve learned throughout my journey that authenticity resonates with others.

This journey holds a unique layer for me as a black woman pursuing a career in rock music—a genre where few look or sound like me. It required more confidence to break through the mold, challenge preconceptions, and stand proudly in a space where diversity is still evolving. Yet, I’ve come to recognize that my authenticity empowers me and contributes to the broader narrative of representation and inclusion in the music industry.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am Élishia Sharie, a Neo Alternative Rock artist based in Los Angeles, CA. My music is a fusion of classic 80’s rock, 90’s alternative, and punk, blended with a raw, soulful vocal style inspired by legends like Tina Turner and Betty Davis. I lead an electrifying 4-piece band, creating a high-energy and emotional experience that goes beyond traditional performances.

After a 12-year battle to recover my voice from vocal trauma, I made it my mission—captured in my first release called “FIGHT!”—to inspire others to fight relentlessly for their dreams, regardless of life’s obstacles. What I find most rewarding about my work is the ability to connect with others on a deeper level.

I recently released my debut album, “The Phoenix Rises,” available on all streaming and downloading platforms. Expertly produced by Jay Vincent B, the great-grandson of the legendary American folk and blues singer Huddie “Lead Belly” Ledbetter, the album features the lyrical brilliance of rap sensation BRIELLE and the electrifying guitar prowess of Kellindo, renowned lead guitarist for the Alternative R&B luminary Janelle Monáe. This album is a powerful testament to resilience, transformation, and the indomitable human spirit. I created it for YOU as a reminder of your inherent power, and I hope you’ll listen and embrace your greatness.

As for what’s new, alongside the album release, I’m thrilled to share that I’m actively planning my second tour for 2024 to expand my reach and connect with a broader audience. Keep an eye out for announcements!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, these are the three qualities that profoundly influenced my path and that I believe will be invaluable for fellow music artists on their journeys:

Resilience: Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. Learn from setbacks, adapt, and persevere.

Authenticity: Stay true to yourself. Celebrate your unique voice and style, focusing on what genuinely resonates with you and your audience. Follow your heart, not trends.

Continuous Learning: Understand the evolving music industry. Become business savvy— learn about contracts, publishing, etc. Many artists focus solely on creativity and lack knowledge of the music business. Develop skills, stay curious, and seek mentorship to navigate the artistic and industry realms.

For those starting their journey, remember: resilience fuels progress, authenticity keeps you grounded, and business savvy, coupled with continuous learning, contributes to your long-term success.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The support of my parents has been the most impactful aspect of my journey. From childhood to adulthood, they wholeheartedly supported my dreams and vision, consistently encouraging my pursuit of a music career. Attending every talent show during my youth and flying out for my significant performances in my adulthood, their dedication has been unwavering. Supporting children, especially in their formative years, is highly impactful. I hope other parents recognize the profound influence they can have on their kids’ journeys by offering unwavering support and encouragement.
